Personal Response My response to the story Hans the Hedgehog is that we should be thankful for what we have and do not judge other people by their physical appearances. Hans the Hegdehogs parents was ashamed of their son and wanted to get rid of him but in the end he turned out to be a handsome young man. This shows that we should not take what God gave to us for granted. Hans the Hedgehogs father ask for a child even if it was a hedgehog and that was what he got. The first king who was dishonest and tried to take advantage of Hans the Hedgehogs illiteracy was punished and his daughter had to suffer in shame for the rest of her life. Therefore we should always be honest to others and true to our promises. Other than that, the second king who honoured his promise accepted Hans the Hedgehog as his son-in-law and gave his kingdom to him. He turned out to be handsome young man and they lived happily ever after. In my opinion, Hans the Hedgehog was really weird. He could survive for years without eating and lived on a tree. He is also a little cruel as the pricked the daughter for the first king although she decided to follow him in the end. Although the king might have dishonoured his promise, it was a little over the top to react like he did. In his defense, Hans the Hedgehog was quite a loyal son as he returned to share his good fortune with his parents. Lastly, this story shows to us that although we might hear a lot of sayings such as appearances are not important as what matters is the inside, it is not true. Hans the Hedgehog was shunned aside by society and his own parents because he looked weird. Nobody bother to find out what is inside him. His weird appearance also led to him not being accepted by both the princesses. Although the second princess accepted him, it was only to honour the promise her father made. She was truely relieved and happy when he turned out to be handsome man. Therefore we can conclude that although the most important beauty a person must possess the inner beauty, the physical appearance is also playing a very important role.
