We Condemn Mas Traitorous Speech

October 17, 2013 After five years of his presidency, the incompetent Ma Ying-jeou has completely abandoned his electoral promise that The future of Taiwan will be decided by its twenty-three million people. With his popularity rating at 9.2%, he shockingly used his speech on the Double Ten celebration to assert that Cross-strait relations are not international relations, so implying that our nation is not a nation. President Ma was elected by the people according to the Constitution of the Republic of China. As overseas Taiwanese who love Taiwan, we must then ask if Taiwan is not a nation then is Ma Ying-jeou a president? Although China continually claims that Taiwan is a part of China, most countries recognize that Taiwan is de-facto a nation separate from the PRC. Because of decades of popular struggle, Taiwan has developed a society which is in accord with international values with freedom , democracy, and human rights. So the overwhelming majority of Taiwans people do not support being swallowed up by the authoritarian and corrupt Chinese communist regime. The people of Taiwan are a mixed ethnicity comprised of different groups who came to Taiwan in different historical periods. They are united as one people by their common fate, comprising the new nation of Taiwan. This is completely different from the "Chinese ethnicity" which Ma talks about. As everyone knows, what the world recognizes as China is the Peoples Republic of China. So it is clear that Ma Ying-jeous intent is to let Taiwan be absorbed by China. For a popularly elected president to deny his own nation if this isnt treason then what would you call it? Because of this we wish to say that Ma Ying-jeou is not fit to be president and should resign immediately, before the pressure of new student and popular movements forces him out, and leaves him with nowhere to run.
