County Executive McCoy Continues 330th Anniversary Celebration With Special Veterans Events
Veterans Day is a time for us to express our gratitude to those who have served their country with honor and pride. Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy is hosting two events that will serve to honor our veterans and provide assistance to those who need it. The County Executive will host a special program to honor five local veterans for their service and commitment to their fellow Americans. This event is being held in conjunction with the countys 330th Anniversary, as the county celebrates the people that make Albany County such a great place to live and work. The veterans celebration will take place on November 8th at 10 a.m. in the Cahill Room at 112 State Street in Albany. Those to be honored are World War II veterans including Medal of Honor winner Frank Currey, Frank Murphy, Richard Marowitz, Ray Joyce and John Edwards. Each of these veterans served our country with distinction. This will serve as a fitting tribute to these veterans and an appropriate kick off to Veterans Day weekend. Later on Friday, the County Executive will join Liz Hitt of the Homeless and Travelers Aid Society (HATAS) and the Transportation Security Administration to distribute clothing recovered at the Albany International Airport security checkpoint. Earlier this year the Clothe-A-Homeless Hero Act took effect, which enables the TSA to give unclaimed items to local organizations for distribution to veterans in need. The presentation will take place at 3 p.m. at the Albany International Airport baggage claim area.
