Rich Girl 1.

There's a lot of places in the song where instead of rhyming, they use the same word again. Both rhymes and inner rhymes.

Structure, harmony, rhythm, melody, lyrics, arrangement, production, feel, texture

Structure 1. Interesting 15 bar Chorus to start, going into a 4 bar guitar riff, propels you in. 4 Bar guitar kind of builds up in Verse 1. 2. Chorus constructed into a Call and Response section feel. Call - You're a rich girl; Response - You can rely on the old man's money. Call - It's a bitch girl; Response - Say money but it won't get you to far. 3. The song starts right on a pickup. No 4 bar intro or anything like that. 4. Use of Chorus fragments at end. Chorus - 15 Guitar - 4 Verse 1 - 16 Chorus - 16 Verse 2 - 16 Chorus - 16 Chorus extension - 4 (say money, but it won't get you to far, vamp) Chorus partial - 4 (and you can rely on the old man's money, x2) Chorus fade - 8 (you're a rich girl.say money, but it won't get you to far) Harmony 1. I think big takeaway is Chord Rhythm. Normally place chords on downbeats half note or whole notes. On the verse "Don't you knoooow" It's a chord per word. So chord per 8th note. The progression there is a rising progression. iim7 iiim7 IVmaj7. 2. Nice bass line / line cliche in the slash chords in Chorus

Chorus I iiim7 vim7 I/V IV I/III vi7 IV/V Verse iim7 iiim7 IVmaj7 iim7

I/V iim7 iiim7 vim7 iim7 iiim7 IVmaj7 iim7 iim7 vim7 iim7 IV/V Rhythm 1. In 2/4 2. Downbeat hit with a swing to it.

Melody 1. The chorus has shorter notes, with the Verse having longer notes, usually the other way around. 2. Pickups into all the sections. "You're a Rich Girl" into Chorus. "Don't You Know" in verse. Noticed the pickup length is proportional to the downbeat length. "You're a Rich.." is two 16th notes pickup + 8th note. "Don't You Knoooow" is two 8th notes pickup + dotted half. It would sound weird to have two 16th note pickup to a dotted half held note. Lyrics 1. Rhyming in the Chorus makes it easy to remember. It has 3 rhymes; actually it has 3 words. It uses the word "far" 4 times. Uses "anyway" twice. and uses "money" twice. 2. "Cause you know it don't matter anyway" is a refrain in the middle of the Chorus. 3. Verse 1 has a lot of inner rhymes. Storyline: Chorus - You're a rich girl who can rely on her father's money; it's not going to get you far Verse 1 - It's wrong to take from your father, you're so far gone, it makes you weak Verse 2 - You hurt others easily; you can't grow love cause you'd rather live a rich thrill seeking life Rhyme: Chorus - abcc abaa Verse 1 - aab aaaaa Verse 2 - abb aa cc d Production / Arrangement Drums, Rhodes Piano, Piano, Strings, Guitar, Backup Vocals,
