How to write a supporting statement

1.1. Your supporting statement is the most crucial part of your application. As it must demonstrate and evidence that you meet the person specification for the post. You will be required to upload a supporting statement as part of your online job application via the Redeployment Portal. 1.2. Your supporting statement needs to be tailored specifically to the post andit gives you the opportunity to sell yourself as the best person for the role. You need to relate your knowledge, skills, and experiences to all the essential requirements and desirables mentioned in the person specification. It is recommended that you write a paragraph or two against each item on the person specification, making sure you demonstrate how you meet the criteria by providing examples from your experience where possible. And always remember to proof read anything you submit as part of your application 1.3. The recruiting manager will go through each essential item on the person specification and compare the information supplied by you in your supporting statement to assess whether you are a potential match of at least 70%. 1.4. If there is a potential match, Redeployment will contact you to arrange a formal interview. If you are not considered to be a match, Redeployment will contact you and provide feedback. 1.5. I have excellent written communication skills having previously composed documents outlining procedures and guidance for a new system implementation which was then rolled out. My present role relies heavily on written communication, I produce informal emails to establish suitable times and venue locations for informal meeting arrangements, formal emails using official department templates to provide confirmation that a position is now live on the portal, and creating emails based on information provided to create constructive feedback to unsuccessful candidates. Services provided at my previous position were customer focused. When dealing with queries I always made sure that clients were happy and satisfied at the end of the phone call. I let them know that their problems do matter and I always resolved them in a sensitive and timely manner. I have extensive experience of working in a customer focussed office environment, I have the necessary patience and tact when addressing peoples needs, and I have an awareness of different cultures and beliefs. I make sure I am informative, helpful, and I commit to any actions that have been agreed. Maintaining confidentiality is an essential part of my current role, I regularly record sensitive data regarding peoples income. This information will be used to establish the eligibility of certain benefits and assist in the decision on what action to take. I ensure details remain confidential, maintain the upmost discretion, and adhere to best practice and data protection regulations whilst ensuring anonymity to prevent any potential bias. In both my previous jobs I successfully trained numerous new staff, I provided them with current copies of relevant procedures and presented myself as approachable should they have needed help with anything. I trained new members for the financial administration team, this involved training on several systems, providing guidance notes, and been the first point of contact should they require advice.
