746th ROB Palmiere Sr., Albert V.

Springdale Albert V. Palmiere Sr., 82, of Springdale, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003) at St. Margaret Seneca Place in Penn Hills. He was born May 19, 1920, in the Bloomfield section of Pittsburgh, and lived in Lawrenceville, retired to Florida, and returned in 1988, living in Harmar. He later moved to Springdale. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 746th Railroad Operating Battalion in the European Theater. He was a truck driver for many years and owned a bar before retiring to Florida in 1980. Survivors include his wife of nearly 10 years, Ellen McSweeney Palmiere; a daughter, Mrs. Bridget (Thomas) Byrne of Johnstown; eight grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. Palmiere was preceded in death by a son, Albert V. Palmiere Jr.; his parents, Vincenzo and Angelina Farese Palmiero; seven brothers, Joseph, John, Pasqual, George, Frank, Nicholas and an infant; and three sisters, Rosina Pietrone, Caroline Marianna, and an infant. Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the WINTER FUNERAL HOME, 4730 Friendship Ave., Bloomfield, where a funeral service is set for 9 a.m. Wednesday. Christian Funeral Mass will follow at 10 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church, 4738 Friendship Ave., Bloomfield. Burial will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Pittsburgh.
