RE: Current Number of Consular Positions ^ 1 1 » />. ——

I spoke with Colombia Barrosse in State/CA to obtain an estimate of how many
consular positions State currently has. She said that there are currently 910
consular positions worldwide. She achieved a breakdown by looking at the
consular packages sent in from the field; there are 591 doing Visa work, 143,
doing ACS work, and 336 who are general managers (e.g., Consul General) who
don't fall into any one category. However, 591 + 143 + 336 = 1070, which is
clearly more than the 910 consular positions that exist. Colombia said that this is
because some of the positions fall into more than one category, e.g., a consular
officer at one post may be doing both visa work and ACS work, so he/she is
counted in both categories.

If you leave out the general managers, you get a total of 734 consular officers
doing either Visa or ACS work; approximately 80% doing Visas and 20% doing
ACS work. These percentages, though, don't account for the work the general
managers are doing.

In addition, of the 910 current consular positions, 80 of these positions are

located in Washington, D.C.
