Pancake breakfast canceled


A benefit pancake breakfast scheduled for Saturday has been canceled, according to organizers of Cushing Project Graduation, PG14. The breakfast was to be 8-10 a.m. Saturday in the Cushing High School cafeteria inside Tiger Fieldhouse. No announcement has been made if the event will be rescheduled.

Love INC seeks volunteers


Volunteers are needed to assist Love In The Name of Christ of Greater Cushing with its community Christmas project. Help is needed to assembly boxed foods for needy Cushing area residents. Boxing will be 6 p.m. Thursday at First Assembly of God Church, 2010 N. Little Ave. About 15 more volunteers are needed, Love INC officials said, to share in a fun couple of house. $39.73 million school bond issue that will, among other things, fund construction of the school. The new school will host fifth- through eighth-graders in two separate wings. The school will have 32 classrooms. The target date, Knight said, is the summer of 2015. "Fall of 2015, we plan on making the change," he said. The change will include eliminating use of the buildings that house Wilson PreKindergarten Center and Harrison Elementary School. They might be sold to the public, Knight said. Cushing schools probably will shift to a grade-center format, with kindergarten and first grade in the existing Harmony Elementary School and second-, third- and fourth-graders moving into

the current Cushing Middle School. Pre-kindergarten will be moved into the Sunnyside Elementary building. All that, of course, depends on construction. "I am very happy today," Knight said Thursday afternoon. "I had a speech planned for this morning but nobody seemed to want to stick around and hear it." Dirt work is being done by C. Watts and Sons of Oklahoma City. Only the dirt work portion of the project has been bid out, Knight said. Bids will be taken beginning Dec. 17 on site utilities. Bids on construction of the actual building will be sent out in January. Knight said Lambert Construction of Stillwater is serving as the construction manager. Distinguished deadline nears


Only two weeks remain before deadline for the 15th annual Distinguished Young Woman of Payne County program. High school juniors from public, private or homeschools are eligible. Deadline is Dec. 15. Rehearsals will begin Jan. 5. The girls will be featured March 8 during the program. Participants will be judged on talent, self-expression, fitness, scholastics and interviews. Two Cushing girls, Jordan Young in 2009 and Anna-Marie Ahrberg in 2012, were county winners. Ahrberg also won the Distinguished Young Woman of Oklahoma title.
