T
he interior features are highlighted by Hinos Similarly simple in operation, but huge in value is Hino Trucks new optional exhaust brake. Operating as easily as a turn signal, the exhaust brake uses engine power to help slow the vehicle, adding to the safety of the truck while also saving wear and tear on the standard air and hydraulic braking systems. Other interior features, such as full-cab trim, drivers air seat, convenient assist handles, and standard AM/FM/CD entertainment unit and air conditioning offer superior driver comfort and satisfaction. new Driver Information Display (DID), which puts the status of nearly every vital vehicle function at the drivers fingertips. With this knowledge, performance and maintenance needs can be closely monitored to maximize economy and reliability. The centerpiece of the DID is the Diesel Particulate Reduction (DPR) System monitor. With a glance, the driver can see how effectively the automatic particulate regeneration mode is working and can plan well in advance in the rare circumstance that a manual regeneration is needed. From there, a simple push of a button can let the driver know fuel efficiency data, trip mileage, voltage status or even the date. It also gives reminders of programmable maintenance intervals for oil and transmission fluid.

The Driver Information Display is packed with practical data reporting capabilities. Operating in either Spanish or English, it can serve as a trip meter, fuel consumption monitor (in mpg or L/100 Km modes, and instant calculation or trip average settings), cruise control setting speed, and engine operation time. It also monitors a wide range of engine performance and maintenance parameters, including diesel particulate matter levels in the regeneration system, change intervals for critical fluids and filters (transmission, coolant and engine oil) and pre-set checkups for components such as alternators, starters, the turbo, radiator, and belt. It also has a voltage meter reading and PTO information.

The Difference is Easy to See

T
he eye-catching, stylized curves of the Hino body give an important hint at the thoughtful engineering found throughout the vehicle. By tucking the battery box, fuel filter and air tanks under the largest-in-class entry steps, we have given them important protection, and also have made the body builders job easier by eliminating the need to work around these components. But, we didnt stop here. The easy-access fuse box has an unclaimed 40-amp fuse, making it simple to outfit the truck for high-power consumption applications, such as beverage hauling. The Davco fuel filter is heated, providing great performance in any weather. It also features see through technology that lets the driver or technician see whether the filter needs to be changed with a quick glance. The nearby air-valve controller automatically diverts air from accessories to critical braking functions in the event of a system leak. Hino Trucks are built to get the job done regardless of the job. Thats why we went the extra mile to make our trucks easily customized to any task. Our color-coded frame power drop connections make our chassis perfect for body builders and upfitters to fully customize. Our high-strength frame rails and powerful engines are suited to any medium duty application, and our easy-access wheel well gives technicians room to work. Options such as vertical exhaust make Hino Trucks perfect for innercity deliveries. Added good looks come from optional chrome bumper and mirrors, alloy wheels, and headlight accents.

Under The Hood

H ino engines are highly regarded for their fuel efficiency, power and reliability. And, for 2008, weve made them better than ever. A closed crankcase ventilation system and larger exhaust gas return cooler help Hino easily meet the new EPA standards for emissions, while a standard glow plug helps ensure good starts in cold weather. The key to Hinos emission control is our proprietary Diesel Particulate Reduction System. Particulate matter is captured by an advanced ceramic filter and then burned off in automatic or manual modes. A common-rail Denso fuel injection system is efficient and proven, delivering the best fuel mileage in the medium duty class. Our four-cylinder, five-liter engine pumps out 175 horsepower, while the workhorse JO8E Series eight-liter powerplants move loads with a standard 220 or optional 260 horses.

Hendrickson Suspension:
In both our air ride and leaf spring suspensions, we use Hendrickson components to deliver outstanding ride and unrivaled durability. Custom-tuned to Hinos specs, the Hendrickson units deliver the perfect combination of smooth ride and stability.

Meritor Rear Axles:

Meritor provides Hinos rear axles, and our owners benefit from their Hypoid-Generoid gearing, industrystandard wheel ends and unitized oil seals all of which add up to minimum maintenance and maximum performance. We top this off with standard hydraulic disc brakes on our 268 and 338 models. MeritorWabco anti-lock brake technology is standard on all Hino conventional models.

It is a high-capacity tranny with a 3:018:1 first gear ratio and a .703:1 fourth-gear ratio, delivering excellent start-up power, good top-end speed, and great fuel economy. In our medium duty lineup, Allison automatic transmissions are specd. These five-speed transmissions feature extremely smooth shifting, with no power interruption. A powerful 32-bit micro-processor maintains constant communication with the engine to optimize fuel efficiency and performance.

Meritor Steering Axles:

We believe that the Meritor MFS Series front axles with TRW steering gears provide the ideal combination of lightweight efficiency and rugged durability. Reduced scrub radius creates outstanding vehicle stability and elongated tie rod arms save money by reducing tire wear. Meritors Easy Steer technology also reduces steering effort and contributes to long component life. The result is the industry leading maneuverability that Hino is famous for.
