Patriot Day was the Frozen T-Shirt Contest. Each pair of
contestants was given a frozen t-shirt. The first
team to ‘thaw‛ the t-shirt and one team member put

When Gary (Sherry’s
Run) says, “To the world, you

Helen Keller. Anne Sullivan
was that person who was the
world to her---and look at all
the good works Helen Keller
did for the world because
of Mrs. Sullivan! I think of
Bible figures---Joseph who
ultimately saved countless
people from starvation,
including his own family. I
think of Rahab who saved
her family and was in the
lineage of Christ and so
many more. They all allowed
God to work through them
and accomplished mighty
deeds they would not
otherwise have been able to
accomplish. One of God’s
greatest blessings is to have
the privilege to help others.
One of the things I suggest to
someone who says they are
down is to do just one small
thing for someone such as
sending a card to someone
with a short, handwritten
note of encouragement
to them. For at least the
moment, it takes their mind
off themselves AND it helps
both the sender and the
receiver.
Most of us want to
help someone. We just don’t
always know how to help
and need someone to give

direction. Or we may not
think we have the talent or
ability to help---that is when
we can encourage each
other and watch our lights

Whatever obstacles
that are thrown in our life,
after the reality check, it
makes us stronger. Cancer
heightens your awareness.
It is more than just a bump
in the road; but, it is a part
of life. At first I questioned,
why am I the one that gets
to live? But I know that God
uses it for a purpose and
gives you something that
you can share and that the
Lord has equipped you in
another way. We should be
thankful for everything that
has been put in our lives; it
has made us who we are. As
Wayne Miller often reminds
us from the pulpit “Do what
you can, where you are, with
what you have.”

a weather-related emergency and have a plan. Two Chasing 4
Life programs will be held: at 10 a.m. learn how radar works,
how tornadoes are like 2-year olds, and why storm chasing is
important; at 1 p.m. you can learn about the importance of
home disaster kits and making a family communication plan.

After seeing on the news recently a Nashville resident getting bilked out of thousands of
dollars, I felt this article might be helpful or informative in some way.
Is it just me, or is it getting harder and harder to find good help? It seems that some
people just want to get paid for doing absolutely nothing. Don’t get me wrong, life would be great
if we got paid for doing nothing, but the people I’m speaking of are thieves, crooks, scammers
and con-artists who make a living out of the art of theft and deception. These are scam artist that
go door to door making business proposals and offers to unsuspecting honest people for the
mere purpose of deception and fraud. These thieves advise honest unsuspecting and trusting
citizens that they have problems with their homes or property that need to be fixed, when in
reality, aren’t really needed in the first place.
They also make the business proposal of a lifetime that sounds much too good to be true
to the unsuspecting property owner. These con-artist and scammers put on good fronts. They
actually look like valid and real businesses, they have the company van or truck with the decals
and tools, but their intent from the start isn’t honest hard work and great customer service and
care, its deception, theft, fraud and scams. Unfortunately, these thieves, crooks, con-artist
and scammers bilk honest law abiding citizens out of thousands of dollars each and every
year with their slick talking snake oil salesman techniques. These con-artist and scammers can
also hurt the efforts of honest and legitimate business owners by damaging the local business
community’s reputation. The damage done by these con-artists also affects the local economy
by discouraging residents to patronize local businesses. The citizens then take their business
elsewhere which has a direct and lasting impact on the local economy.
Therefore, I would like to encourage all residents to please ask anyone soliciting business
at your home or by phone to please ask for references, business licenses and other information
before doing business with them. An even better way to handle this situation is to not let them
into your home or provide them with any personal information at all and state that you are not
interested. Simple ways of determining a legitimate business is to contact the Better Business
Bureau or your local Chamber of Commerce Office. Once you have done this and called on a
business or vendor for work, don’t be shy; always ask for references, identification and business
license.
Also, don’t be embarrassed if you’re not interested. Simply say no thank you or I’m not
interested and please don’t call again. This may be difficult for some since we are all raised to
be respectful to those that approach or call on us but it is always best to be safe. If you need a
job done seek out your own contractor or call on someone you know and trust. This is not to say
that all businesses that call on or approach you are dishonest, it’s only to encourage you to be
cautious and safe. With a little work you can clearly see and determine the difference between
an honest business and a dishonest business. You work hard for your money and should also
make sure you get exactly what you pay for.
In closing, you are the customer and should be treated with respect and honesty. You
should receive what you pay for and receive good customer service.
3rd Annual Labor Day Kids Triathlon

Langford Farms Club will host its 3rd Annual Labor Day Kids Triathlon on September 7. Children
