For those arriving early to the ICMM 2009 Conference in Esbjerg there is anadditional seminar on maritime heritage underwater, its management, itsexploitation and its access.The seminar is organized by ICMM’s counterpart in ICOMOS, the InternationalCommittee on the Underwater Cultural Heritage, ICUCH.ICUCH was founded in 1992 to work with UNESCO on the development of bestpractice regarding the protection and management of underwater culturalheritage world-wide.Starting with ICMM’s Barcelona resolutions on acquisition of objects recoveredunder water, this field has developed enormously with the 2001 UNESCOConvention on the Protection of the Underwater Cultural Heritage entering intoforce earlier this year, and the 1970 Convention now ratified by ever more’importing’ countries.ICUCH has 32 members world-wide and has its annual meeting in Esbjerg, justprior to the start of the ICMM-congress.The seminar will be held on October 5th and is hosted by the MaritimeArchaeology Programme at the University of Southern Denmark. The venue isthe University’s auditorium on Niels Bohrsvej 9.
