Residential School Project in Marayoor, Idukki

Marayoor is one of the famous tourist spots in the Idukki District of Kerala state, South
India. It is the land where nature, history and culture merge harmoniously into tourism.
Marayoor is the only place in Kerala that has natural sandal wood forests.

Marayoor is 42 kilometers from Munnar. A scenic drive from Muvatapuzha through

Kodamangalam and Adimali will get you there in about 2 hours. The people of Marayoor
base their daily livelihood on agriculture in some very unfavorable climatic conditions.

The Sri Saraswati Vidya Mandhiram is attended by children of Marayoor and Kanthaloor
panchayats. The population of these two panchayats is about 22000. Most of the people are
from the tribal sects of the region. The school currently exists on 25 cents of land. It has only
two rooms and is working from a very old building with tin sheet roofing. The building is in a
very diplated state. The extreme climate conditions often force the school authorities to shut
down the school.
Existing School Students & Teachers

The Saraswati Vidya Mandhiram is an accredited school affiliated to the Bharatheeya Vidhya
Nikethan. Currently 50 students study at this school. The school has three teachers.
Education is imparted free of cost. More students who have come to join the school have
been transferred to far of places like Kottayam due to lack of space and facility.

Seva Darshan Kuwait has decided to jointly work with the management of the school to
establish a residential school in the area. For this purpose over 80 cents of land has been
acquired. The school project once completed will provide education to over 200 children and
can accommodate up to 50 children.
