Educational Acts
The Education Act 1961 - Parliament passed this act based on the Razak Report and the Rahman Talib Report. - Implementation of National Education System. The Education Act 1996 - To incorporate preschool education within the national education system.

The Private Higher Educational Institution Act (PHEI) - To increase private sector participation in tertiary education. - Allows the private sector to establish degree awarding institutions. - Allow the set up of foreign universities

Conducted by Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) Main aim is to develop a suitable system of learning for bright and potential students. Began in January 2011 with 116 students aged 16 being chosen from all over the country. A 2 year full time study program

Centers of excellence Focuses on niche areas like music, sports, ICT, sciences, languages and special education

Postgraduate Programmes
Offered by both public and private universities. Master of Science is offered through coursework or research Doctor of Philosophy is offered through research Example:

Vocational Programmes & Polytechnic Schools Students can choose to enrol in the ICSA (Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators) programme. In polytechnic:
Diploma = 3 years Certificate = 2 years
