The difference we make

Our patients
Richard Fryer from Burwell near Cambridge received life-threatening head and chest injuries when his car collided with a scaffolding lorry in January 2012. His son, Freddy, was also injured. Richard was in a coma in Addenbrookes Hospital for several weeks. Fortunately, and partly thanks to the swift attention he received at the scene of the accident, he has gone on to make an excellent recovery. Richard, Freddy and the whole family have become passionate supporters of the EAAA. Catherine Edgington from Langham near Cromer suffered a severe allergic reaction after being stung by a swarm of bees while out taking her dog for a walk in September 2011. She managed to get home before passing out. Her mother called 999 and Anglia One was tasked to the scene. They ew her straight to the Intensive Care department at the Norfolk & Norwich University Hospital a factor which undoubtedly contributed to her excellent recovery. Catherine has also become a committed fundraiser for the EAAA. With your help, we can be there for more people like Richard and Catherine.

Saving lives in East Anglia

For those unfortunate enough to be involved in accidents or medical emergencies, the likelihood of a full recovery perhaps even their survival can depend on the level of specialist medical care they receive and how quickly they receive it. This is where we can help. Since our launch in 2000, our crews have attended more than 12,500 lifesaving missions, touching the lives of many thousands of people. The four counties we serve, Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and Suffolk, cover a huge area, much of it rural with many inaccessible and remote places. Add to this a poor road infrastructure and a journey to hospital for some seriously ill patients can take more than an hour. Our two specially equipped aircraft can reach patients anywhere in the region within 25 minutes and convey them to hospital if necessary. The range of time-critical procedures performed by our highly skilled doctor/ paramedic crews means they offer a standard of emergency care usually found only in a hospital. Its the combination of advanced medical care at the incident site and rapid onward transfer to hospital which can be vital in saving lives and improving patients prospects of making a full recovery. But we need your help because the EAAA is a charity. We receive no direct government or National Lottery funding and have to raise 6 million per year to maintain the service. We are entirely dependent on donations and fundraising.
