FOREWORD
This pamphlet is based upon three papersread at the national educational meetings inFebruary of this year. One was read beforethe Progressive Education Association in Bal-timore, a second before a division of the De-partment of Superintendence in Washington, and a third before the National Council ofEducation, also in Washington
. The titles of
these papers were respectively
:
Dare Progres-
sive Education Be Progressive, Education
Through Indoctrination,
andFreedom, Cul-
ture, Social Planning, and Leadership
.
Be-
cause of the many requests for the papers
which have come in from the most diverse
quarters and through the courtesy of the John
Day Company they are now combined and
issued in pamphlet form
