1. An experiment was conducted by a group of students to study the effect of air movement
on the rate of transpiration of a balsam shoot by using a potometer as shown in figure 1.1
Satu eksperimen telah dijalankan oleh sekumpulan pelajar untuk mengkaji kesan
pergerakan udara ke atas kadar transpirasi bagi sepohon bunga balsam dengan
menggunakan potometer gelembung seperti dalam rajah 1.1.

An electric fan was used to produce different speed of air movement. P was the initial
position of air bubble before the electric fan was switched on.
Sebuah kipas elektrik telah digunakan untuk menghasilkan kadar pergerakan udara yang
berlainan. P ialah kedudukan asal gelembung udara sebelum kipas elektrik dihidupkan.
When the electric fan was switched on at speed 1, with the help of air movement transpiration
occur. The air bubble moved from P to Q after five minutes.
Apabila kipas elektrik dipasangkan pada kelajuan 1, transpirasi telah berlaku dengan
bantuan pergerakan udara. Gelembung udara bergerak dari P ke Q selepas lima minit.
The experiment was repeated by switching on the electric fan to the higher speed, speed 2
and speed 3.
Eksperimen telah diulangi dengan memasang kipas elektrik pada kelajuan yang lebih tinggi,
kelajuan 2 dan kelajuan 3.
Table 1. 1 below shows the distance of the air bubble moved in five minutes in the capillary
tube.
Jadual 1.1 menunjukkan jarak pergerakan gelembung udara dalam masa lima minit di

(i) Another group of students carry out another set of investigation on transpiration by using
the materials and apparatus listed below. Classify the materials and apparatus used in the
investigation.

dengan menggunakan bahan dan radas berikut. Kelaskan bahan-bahan yang digunakan

2. Lemna sp. is a small floating plant, which lives in a fresh water environment. It reproduces
asexually. The growth of Lemna sp. plants depend on the abiotic factors such as light
intensity, temperature, water pH and concentration of carbon dioxide.
[Lemna sp. merupakan sejenis tumbuhan terapung kecil, yang hidup dalam persekitaran air tawar.
Tumbuhan ini membiak secara aseksual. Pertumbuhan Lemna sp. bergantung kepada faktor-faktor
abiotik seperti keamatan cahaya, suhu, pH air dan kepekatan karbon dioksida.]

Based on the information and Diagram 1, design a laboratory experiment to investigate the
effect of change in pH value on the population growth rate of Lemna sp. plants.
Any chemical and science apparatus in the laboratory can be included in the experimental
design.
