BC Healthy Communities Capacity Building Project for Bouchie Lake & Parkland Recreation Areas - Local Report Dated:

March, 2014 We held 2 Community Open Houses and 1 Stakeholder Meeting, with encouraging conversation that identified each communities common goals, barriers and priortized the vision of what "Community Health" means. Community Health could include the following: food security, job security, education, literacy, economic development, rural assisted living, cellphone & internet service, recycling bins, share sheds, Doctor Days, Health Promotion Workshops, grocery delivery, mini mart (Parkland), community school within the community halls that offer specific programming that may engage all ages with intent to bring knowledge across the generations.

Goals: It was agreed that in order to move forward, we need to identify a Steering Committee of Volunteer Residents, that would be willing to assist stakeholders with an Action Plan. Our first priority would be to write letters and then set up meetings with the appropriate partners. While the intent is to approach this Action Plan from the grassroots level, we will remain innovative and approachable to ensure consistent reliance with all partnerships. It is our goal to develop a Pilot Project or many, to showcase what can be done in rural and isolated communities throughout British Columbia. Once completed, we will measure outcomes and document results to share with other CRD communities. We offered a brief survey and the results tallied: 1) Do you feel this workshop has identified common issues? Yes = 56% No = 0 2) What partnerships would be beneficial to the common issues? City of Quesnel 31% Cariboo Regional District 44% BC Government 22% (we took out the current leading party as this is irrelevant) Parent Advisory Councils 22% Recreation Commissions 47% 3) Do you access the services that are presently in your community? Yes = 44% No = 19% 4) Do you know what the current services in our community are? Yes = 44% No = 25% 5) Do you access RecreationServices in Quesnel? Yes = 31% No = 25% 6) Do you: drive your own vehicle? Yes = 63% nobody used any other form (Taxi or Handi Dart) These figures are based on the number of completed surveys against the actual number of participants. Not all completed a survey.

These are the 3 priortized Community Health Issues, that we will move forward.
