REPORT OF THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE SOCIETY ACTIVITIES

It has been another successful year for the English Language Society of Institutes Sultan
Abdul Halim. A number of activities were successfully carried out under the guidance of our
two lecture advisor, Puan Halimah Binti Ali and Mr. Ng Song Key. Following lecture were
appointed to the new board of directors.

Several activities were carried out.
1. Annual General Meeting
About 45 members attended the Annual General Meeting on 23 January 2014.
The following student was elected as office bearers.
President : Leow Li Li
Secretary : Tan Siew Chin
Treasure : Vincent Tang
Other committee members elected are James Liew, Salina Manap and
Khairulnisa Kaseh.
2. Educational camps
The society organized a day trip to the Star Newspaper office in Penang on 24
February 2014. Students got first-hand information about how newspaper are
produced. We also what it was like to work as journalist. At the same day, the
society organized a trip to a recycling factory in Butterworth.
3. Camping trips
Two camping trips were organised and the response from the members was
encouraging.
a) On 2 March, e had a two-day and one-night camping trip to Sungai Jahang
Perak. The objectives of this camping trip was to expose the members learn
about flora and fauna.
b) At the same day also, all member had another camping trip to Kellie Castle.
The members had a wonderful time and have knowledge about that.
4. Inter-class debates
The inter-class debates ere carried out on two Saturday in the month of March. In
the initial rounds, certificates were given to all participants. Participants in the
finals were awarded trophies. Christopher Bearer from PISMP Semester 5
Preschool Program emerged as the champion in the inter-class debate.

5. Fund-raising activities
As the society as running out of funds, two fund raising activities were held,
namely a food sale and the sale of bookmarks made by members of society. We
managed to raise more than RM500 from the to activities.
6. Projects
Two projects were carried out in 2014. The first project was organising English
Week, where the society had to come up with creative ideas on producing thing
to sell. These included bookmarks, handcraft and so on. A total of RM 1000.00
was earned for the activity. The Director was very grateful and donated a tent for
The English Society. The second project was visit to the old folk home in Cheras.
The society had a roster whereby they took turns to visit the home and helped the
aged in whatever way they can, like reading stories, singing and cleaning their
beds.
The society was able to carry out its activities successfully because of the high commitment
and dedication of its members. We hope to come up with other interesting activities that will
enable us to get money to improve our society. On behalf of the society, I would like to thank
our adviser for the support and guidance given. I have confidence that the society will be
succeed in the coming year with all the positive support that we have received from all
involved.
