The Amarok doesnt just have a lot of character from the
outside, there is plenty of personality under the engine
compartment lid, too: either the high-performance 2.0 litre
TDI engine (90 kW)* or the even more powerful 2.0 litre
BiTDI engine (120 kW)* - each equipped with innovative
common rail technology. Both engines are extraordinarily
high-revving and smooth with rear-wheel drive and comfort
leaf springs, making you feel like you are travelling through
the city or across the motorway in a passenger car. Those
who wish to enjoy the dynamic advantages of all-wheel drive
on paved roads, country lanes or on off-road paths can
combine the comfort leaf springs with permanent 4MOTION

The Amarok offers that little
bit extra at all times par-
ticularly in terms of its pas-
senger compartment space.
Look forward to generously
laid out leg and head room,
which remains unequalled in
this category. And your tools
and small objects have also
been taken into consider-
ation: lots of practical storage
trays provide ample space
to store everything in an or-
derly manner.
The vehicle is equipped with
a black grained rear bum-
per as standard. This fea-
ture may also be dese-
lected upon demand, in
which case the tailboard can
be completely folded down
at a 180 angle for increased
ease of loading.

The Amarok can transport large quantities and therefore takes
even the toughest challenges in its stride. This is ensured by the
2.52 m load area, which can be protected by a robust special
coating upon demand. The particularly low load platform height
and the large tailboard make loading and unloading as easy as pos-
sible. And in case you wish to explore difficult roads off the beaten
track, you can equip your Amarok with all-wheel drive with a choice
of either permanent or shiftable 4MOTION all-wheel drive.

Working materials, tools, manpower. With the Amarok, youll be
able to carry enough of everything you need and comfortably
seat up to five people. A Euro pallet can be loaded crosswise on
the load area the broadest in its category. In combination
with the robust heavy duty leaf springs, a payload of up to 1,141 kg
is possible. And in case of rain, you can safely store your brick
trowel and power drill in the double-cab because the cinema-style
rear seating can be divided 1/3 to 2/3 and folded in part or entirely.
No matter what you transport with your Amarok bales of straw for
the stables, seed potatoes for the field or silage for the animals it
can handle any load effortlessly thanks to its high payload and its
enormous pulling power. To ensure that everything stays in place,
the load area has four lashing eyes that can be used to secure your
load with tie-down belts. And should your journey take you over sticks
and stones, this is not a problemeither. An underride guard is avail-
able as an option to protect the engine and gearbox fromheavy blows.

Additionally, the door han-

Inside the passenger compart-

Chassis. Upon demand, all three Amarok equipment lines are also available without a load platform. This way, you will receive the
versatile and robust Amarok Chassis for individual special bodies. When the load platform is deselected, the wheelhouse shells,
the tailboard as well as the rear lights and license plate light are also omitted. Please note that the vehicle will only become eligible
for registration upon completion by the special body manufacturer.
Load platform illumination. It lights up
the load platform so that you can even
load your vehicle in the dark. Additio-
nally, a third brake light is integrated
in the load platform illumination.
Load area. Thanks to a loading width of 1,222 mm between the wheel housings, the Amarok can even transport Euro pallets cross-
wise unthinkable for most pickups. This is due to the fact that the entire 2.52 m load area is used in an optimal manner. If needed,
the sturdy tailboard can be used as a practical extension of the load area. As the license plate is not visible in this case, an additional
license plate holder is required for your journey. On models without a rear bumper, the tailboard can even be folded down at a
180 angle to make loading and unloading as easy as possible. And to ensure that everything stays in place, the load can be secured
on four different lashing eyes using tie-down belts.
The design of the Amarok is not only functional, but extremely impressive to look
at, too. Youll rec og nize the typical Volkswagen face with its distinctive front
headlights from far away. In addition, the Amarok Highline is equipped with flared
wheelhouses as standard. Large rear lights and a wide, sturdy tailboard perfectly
round off the vehicles strong look.

Load compartment protective coating.
Sprayed directly onto the paint finish,
this anthracite-coloured, UV-resistant
special coating protects the load com-
partment from mechanical and chemical
damage.

Plastic load compartment cover. The lockable load compartment lid is wind and
weatherproof thanks to its special seal package. Thanks to two gas pressure springs, it is
easy to fold and unfold. Furthermore, the surface is painted in the colour of the ve-
hicle.

Hardtop. Specially designed for the Amarok, the hardtop serves as a fully-functional luggage or load compartment. Thanks to the
standard seal package, the interior is reliably protected from wind and water. It also has a glass tailgate and gas pressure springs
as well as sliding windows, which can be locked from the inside. The hardtop is painted in the colour of the vehicle and is equipped
with interior trim as well as rear window heating and heat-insulated privacy glass as standard.
Front bumper with black graining. Particularly robust and durable. Upon demand,
the front bumper can be painted in the colour of the vehicle.
Body-coloured front bumper. The front bumper is painted in the colour of the
vehicle and gives the Amarok Trendline a dynamic appearance. Chrome applications
on the upper radiator grille give your vehicle additional shine.
Front bumper with chrome applications. Chrome applications on the upper and lower
radiator grille and on the fog lights create a shining contrast to the auto body colour.
Solar protection film, black (not illust-

Chrome II exterior package. You can upgrade the appearance of your Amarok with elegant applications and high-grade steel attachment
parts. The package comprises a two-tone bumper trim, which spans the entire front of the vehicle and underlines the off-road charac-
ter of the Amarok, as well as two chrome-plated side bars and a chrome-look twin-tube styling bar, both made of high-grade steel.
Chrome III exterior package. This exclusive package effectively underlines the powerful character of the Amarok. It includes a two-
tone bumper trim, which spans the entire front of the vehicle and underlines the off-road character of the Amarok, as well as two
high-grade steel chrome-plated side bars with non-slip black surfaces and a distinctive, chrome-appearance twin-tube styling bar
made of high-grade steel. This package is also available without the styling bar upon demand.
Rear bumper chrome-plated. The rear
bumper made of chrome-plated steel
gives the Amarok an even more distinc-
tive appearance. There is also an inte-
grated step tread to ensure that loading
and unloading is easier and more com-
fortable for you.
Rear bumper in black. The robust bum-
per with a step tread per fectly rounds
off the rear of the vehicle. Upon demand,
the distinctive bumper can be deselect-
ed on the basic version of the Amarok.
Mud flaps at the front and rear. They
are made of plastic and mounted to the
inside of the wheelhouses to protect
your own vehicle and the vehicles behind
you from dirt and stone damage.
Tow bar preparation. With a trailer load
capacity of up to 2,800 kg at a 12% in-
cline, it is as robust as the Amarok itself.
Underride Guard I package (not illus-
trated). It protects the engine and
gearbox from stone-chip, amongst other
things, and is available for the Amarok
with rear-wheel drive or permanent all-
wheel drive. The Amarok with heavy
duty leaf springs can be equipped with
the Underride Guard HD package, which
contains a robust underride guard
for the tank in addition to the already
mentioned features.
Loading sill height and tailboard height.
At 780 mm, the loading sill is kept low
for easier loading and unloading while
the tailboard height of 508 mm is ex cep-
tionally high. This way, bulk cargo can
also be transported without a problem.

Off-road package HD (not illustrated).
This package is only available for the
Amarok with heavy duty leaf springs. It
includes an underride guard each for
the engine, gearbox and fuel tank to of-
fer reliable protection from damage.
The Amarok with selectable 4MOTION
all-wheel drive is already equipped
with the engine underride guard as stan-
dard. The 16" Amazonit alloy wheels
with 245/70 R 16 XL A/T high profile tyres
offer the necessary grip when driving
on open terrain.
Off-road package I. A robust Off-road package can be ordered as an option for the
Amarok to make it even more suitable for driving on open terrain. It includes an under-
ride guard each for the engine and gearbox as well as 245/70 A/T off-road tyres with
16" Amazonit alloy wheels. This package is available for the Amarok with comfort leaf
springs and rear-wheel drive or permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The Amarok
with selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive is already equipped with the engine underride
guard as standard.
Wheels.
Robust and powerful on open terrain, elegant on the boulevard. Or would you prefer a
sportier look? Give your Amarok a distinctive exterior by choosing from a large range
of alloy wheels in different designs and sizes to suit your personal taste requirements.
In order to protect the wheel rims from theft, locking wheel bolts including an adapt-
er for the lug wrench are available upon demand.

Amarok is delivered with a spare wheel
with standard-sized tyre. It is secure-
ly attached under the vehicle for easy
access. In case you have selected
alloy wheels, the spare wheel will be

Centre console. A practical storage compartment is located behind the gear lever knob.
It is equipped with a top cover as standard for the Amarok Trendline and Highline.
Robust floor covering. The washable
surface makes it even easier to keep the
passenger compartment clean.
Carpet floor covering. It is particularly
robust and creates a warm atmosphere
in the passenger compartment.
However tough a work assignment may be, nothing will shake you in the Amarok.
The comfortable interior has equipment that you would only expect to find in a pas-
senger vehicle. From the optional leather upholstery to the clearly laid out dash-
board, the passenger compartment has been designed to make you feel comfortable.
Particularly the generous amount of head and leg room provides you with plenty
of space for enjoyment.
Interior.
Stowage pockets in the doors. The drivers door and the front passengers door
each have side pockets, which can hold a drink bottle of up to 1.5 litres. The stowage
pockets in the rear doors can each hold a 1 litre bottle.
Cinema-style seating. The seats can be
folded up cinema-style to protect the
upholstery. This way, you can transport
your dog in the double-cab or even
electric appliances so that they dont get
rained on.
Cockpit. The premium look-and-feel of the materials and the ergonomic arrangement of the controls set a whole new standard
for pickups. There are many stowage compartments, for example, on the doors, on the centre console and on the dashboard, to
ensure that all your travel utensils are stored safely and the glove compartment can even be locked. Extremely practical: the eyeball
air vents allow a direct and precise regulation of airflow.

Convenience package. Find the right angle in just a few seconds: the windows and
electric door mirrors can be operated electronically at the push of a button. This pack-
age also includes central locking with radio remote control.
Height-adjustable seats. The driver
and front passenger seats can be adjus-
ted individually and ergonomically.
So youll arrive at your destination fee-
ling relaxed.
Interior, front. The interior has been designed with your well-being in mind. The two front seats offer individual height-adjustment
and can even be heated upon demand. On the front passenger side, a grab handle facilitates entry to the vehicle, on the Trendline
and Highline a grab handle is also attached to the A pillar on the drivers side. Two cupholders keep coffee and refreshments securely
in place. Another practical touch: there are drawers underneath the seats so that you can store smaller items. Of course, your safety
is also catered for: a drivers airbag and a front passenger airbag as well as two head/thorax airbags protect you in the unlikely event
of an accident.
12 V socket. Located on the dashboard, it can be used, for example, to connect a mobile
navigation system.
Interior, rear. As soon as you sit down in one of the comfortable Amarok seats, you wont want to get up again. There is an
impressive amount of head room and leg room on the rear passenger bench seat. Increased safety is assured by the three head
restraints, three 3-point retractable seat belts and two ISOFIX childs seat mounting points. The cinema-style seats can be
folded up quickly and easily. Entering and leaving the vehicle is just as easy thanks to the two grab handles attached to the B pillars
on the Amarok Trendline and Amarok Highline.
Cupholders. Integrated in the centre
console, the cupholders keep your
drink secure. For the Amarok Trendline
and the Amarok Highline, there are
two additional folding cupholders in
the passenger compartment.

all other pickups thanks to its state-of-the-art gearbox technology, superior off-road
capabilities and optimal traction. On tarmac roads, however, the Amarok stands out
for its smooth and comfortable driving characteristics. So no matter whether you
are faced with water, snow, mud or extreme inclines, the Amarok will bring you, your
work materials and heavy equipment wherever you need to go quickly and safely.
This is also ensured by its powerful 2.0 litre TDI engine with 90kW

exhaust turbo chargers provide an impressive vehicle response at low revs and more
powerful performance at high revs. With an output of 120 kW (163 bhp) and 400 Nm
torque, you can leave everyday behind you as well as high fuel costs. Because the
Amarok with rear-wheel drive and the 2.0 litre TDI engine has an average fuel con-
sumption of just 7.3 litres per 100 km.
Permanent 4MOTION all-wheel drive
(not illustrated). This 4MOTION all-
wheel drive with Torsen differential
makes the most of the dynamic driving
benefits of all-wheel drive and is suit-
able for driving on paved roads as well
as on open terrain. It is only available
in conjunction with comfort leaf springs.
Rear-wheel drive (not illustrated).
During acceleration, the vehicle weight
is transferred to the back wheels for
optimal road contact. Additionally, rear-
wheel drive enables steering that is
not influenced by the engine torque.
Differential lock (not illustrated). When
the rear differential lock is activated,
both wheels at the back of the vehicle are

and rotations. This offers optimal trac-
tion, even on sandy or slippery surfaces.
Airbags (not illustrated). EveryAmarok is
equipped with up-to-date airbag tech-
nology. Just a few milliseconds after the
crash sensors register an impact, the
drivers airbag and the front passenger
airbag are inflated with a gas mixture
to protect the head and upper body area
of the passengers. In addition, com-
bined head/thorax airbags are integra-
ted in the sides of the front seats. These
are im mediately activated following a
side collision.
Selectable 4MOTION all-wheel drive.
The selectable 4MOTION all-wheel
drive ensures reliable traction on all
road surfaces. Once activated via push-
button, it distributes 50 % of the engine
output to each of the axles to improve
forward thrust. An additional gear reduc-
tion setting can be engaged to cope
with extremely tough terrain or steep in-
clines. The electronic stabilisation
programme also functions when select-
able all-wheel drive is activated. And
you continue to drive your vehicle with
rear-wheel drive when travelling on
paved roads.
Hill Start and Hill Descent Assist
(not illustrated). It prevents the Amarok
from rolling backwards on strong
inclines and allows a comfortable hand-
ling of the vehicle when pulling away
uphill. Upon activation of the Off-road
function, the assistant automatically
brakes the vehicle to allow a safe and
controlled descent.
The Amarok smoothly handles even the toughest terrain thanks to its numerous
safety and assistance systems. The elaborate technology package, consisting of Off-
road ABS and next generation electronic stabilisation programme with hill start
and hill descent assistant, is unique in the pickup category. During extreme off-road
driving, the Off-road ABS ensures controlled blocking of the wheels so that small
bits of material from the ground build up to create brake wedges. This can substantially
reduce the stopping distance of the vehicle without having a negative impact on
its manoeuvrability. The electronic stabilisation programme automatically adjusts to
the load conditions and helps prevent the vehicle from swerving. These measures
combined with maximum stability thanks to the robust ladder frame makes the Amarok
an ideal partner for the intense rigours of day-to-day work.

Climatronic air conditioning system. This system with 2-zone temperature adjust-
ment recognises the intensity of the suns rays and the outside temperature, and
adds more or less cool air accordingly. The automatic air distribution mechanism and
air quality sensors ensure a pleasant interior climate.
Electronic Differential Lock (EDL)(not
illustrated). If one wheel starts to spin, it
brakes the wheel and transfers the en-
tire power to the second rear wheel on
vehicles with rear-wheel drive and to
the other three wheels on vehicles with
4MOTION all-wheel drive. The Elec-
tronic Differential Lock (EDL) can also
be combined with a rear axle differen-
tial lock. Multi-function steering wheel. All avail-
able radio systems as well as the radio
navigation system can be operated via
the integrated controls of the multi-
function steering wheel. It is leather-cov-
ered and therefore feels extremely com-
fortable in your hands.
Off-road ABS. In addition to the conven-
tional anti-lock braking system, the
Amarok is also equipped with Off-road
ABS, which has been specially devel-
oped for use off the beaten track. As soon
as this function has been activated
by pressing a button the braking in-
terval is increased. The wheels lock
up in a controlled manner so that small
wedges of material from the ground
(such as gravel or sand) build up in
front of each wheel. This can substant-
ially reduce the stopping distance of
the vehicle.
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). If a
wheel is in danger of locking, the system
immediately intervenes by reducing
the brake pressure in a controlled man-
ner. This helps to keep the Amarok fully
steerable when braking hard.
Anti-Slip Regulation (ASR) (not illustra-
ted). If one of the driven wheels has an
undesirably high rotation speed (slip
rate), the system activates a partial bra-
king procedure. This prevents wheelspin
and facilitates a smooth acceleration.
Emergency stop signal (not illustrated).
In the event of an emergency stop at
50 khp or above, the brake lights start
flashing. If the vehicle comes to a stand-
still, the hazard warning lights are ac-
tivated and will auto matically switch off
again as soon as you reach a speed of
10 khp when you resume driving.
Electronic Stabilisation Programme.
The electronics help prevent the vehicle
from swerving. In order to respond to
critical driving conditions, the system
evaluates data provided by a network
of sensors. It can, for example, recognize
what direction the driver is steering in
and what direction the vehicle is moving
in and it is also informed on the load
situation. Thus, it can build up brake
force to offer directional stability when
needed. At the same time, the electronic
stabilisation programme is synchro-
nised with the ABS, MSR and ASR func-
tions and also remains activated with
shiftable 4MOTION all-wheel drive. The
laws of physics cannot, however, be
overruled by the electronic stabilisation
programme.
Trailer stabilisation (not illustrated). It
complements the electronic stabili sa-
tion programme: should the trailer start
to fluctuate heavily, the system slows
it down by means of controlled braking
and reduced engine torque. This steadies
the trailer and increases driving safety.
ParkPilot, rear (not illustrated). A
warning tone signalises the distance to
obstacles while driving in reverse. In
addition to the acoustic warning tone,
an optical signal appears on the dis-
play of the optional RCD 310 radio
system or the RNS 315 navigation
function to show the distance behind
the vehicle whilst parking.
When your day-to-day work assignments are tough and demanding, your journey to
work should be as comfortable as possible. Thats why the Amarok offers you a variety
of comfortable equipment such as the generous head room and leg room, the optional
leather fittings for the Trendline and the Highline including heated front seats, and the
high-quality air conditioning systems to make everyday life more pleasant.
Comfort.
Climatic air conditioning system. It
has an interior sensor, which continually
regulates the climate inside the vehicle
to meet the desired temperature setting.
The degree of temperature, air distribu-
tion and blower speed can be adjusted
individually.
Technology package. It consists of a
cruise control and a multi-function dis-
play. The latter provides you with var-
ious data to help you drive economically
and safely. This information includes,
for example, the remaining range.
Cool & Sound package (not illus-
trated). Ensure a pleasant journey: the
Climatronic air conditioning system
with 2-zone temperature adjustment
as well as the RCD 310 radio system
with an MP3-compatible CD drive
and six loudspeakers, a leather-covered

Touch Phone Kit Bluetooth hands-free
set. The 2.8" TFT colour touch screen offers
state-of-the-art technology and provides
you with the highest degree of operating
comfort, amongst other things with voice
control and a text-to-speech function*.
RNS 315 navigation function for
the RCD 310 radio system. The RNS
315 has all the functions of the RCD
310 and is additionally equipped with
a touch screen colour display and a
Bluetooth compatible hands-free set for
mobile phones. Six loudspeakers pro-
vide optimum sound. Maps of Western
Europe have been preloaded on the
4 GB flash memory so that you can listen
to your favourite CD at the same time.
An AUX-IN interface and an SD-card slot
are integrated at the front of the system.
Mobile phone provision. A mobile
phone provision with a Bluetooth func-
tion, a microphone in the roof console
and a 3-button control unit is available
in conjunction with the RCD 210
and RCD 310 radio systems.

winter tyres. The alloy wheels are com-
patible with snow chains. The wheel rim
is also available individually.

sound experiences: the radio systems provide great entertainment for the entire
passenger compartment with up to six loudspeakers. And thanks to the hands-free
facility, you can even talk to your loved ones while youre at the wheel. Now nothing

Multimedia.
RCD 210 radio system. This radio has
an RDS display, an MP3 compatible CD
player, an interface for a universal mo-
bile phone provision and either two or
four loudspeakers in the drivers cab
with an output of 20 watts each.
RCD 310 radio system. It has all the
functions of the RCD 210 and additio-
nally offers two more loudspeakers in
the rear compartment as well as a diver-
sity aerial and a large display that is com-
patible with ParkPilot.
Multi-use mounting points. The Amarok is equipped with two multi-use mounting
points on the dashboard easily accessible and in clear view for the driver. Several
practical attachments are available for these mounting points: a cupholder, a picture
frame, an ashtray with lid, a note clip or a magnetic holder for metal objects. The basic
version can be retrofitted with a mounting bracket for the multi-attachment point.

Side bars. The polished stainless steel
creates an athletic, sleek look. With
a diameter of 76mm, the bars can be
safely attached to the standard se-
curing points without the need for ad-
ditional drilling by using three fasten-
ing clamps each.
Side bars with tread plates. These side
bars, made with highly-polished stain-
less steel, give the vehicle a dynamic
and sporty feel. They feature robust black
tread plates which can bear a weight
of up to 200 kg.
Sticker package. The four high-quality, silver design film pieces with punched out
lettering emphasise the stylish side of the Amarok. They should be attached to the

Amarok: the support vehicle for the toughest rally in the world.
There is no race that is more arduous, none that is more demanding for man and machine: the Dakar Rally is a true legend. And in
January 2010, it became the perfect framework for the first grand appearance of the Amarok.
But Volkswagen also dominated the famous contest on the race course in 2011 celebrating a triple victory in the automobile rankings
of 2009, 2010 and 2011 as well as away from the action. The Amarok served as the official support vehicle for the Dakar Rally
2011 in all of its stages, safely bringing the race management as well as the service teams to the finish line. Scorching hot temper-
atures, over 4,500 metre high passes nothing could stop the Amarok on its almost 9,000 kilometre journey across Argentina
and Chile. This is why it will be used as support vehicle again in 2012 to ensure that everything runs smoothly at the Dakar Rally.
