Tis Sunday we remember those at Eastmont who have gone on to heaven since last Memorial Day. We share their names and a photo and then thank God for their faithful life and eternal salvation. Tis is also a time to remember and honor those who have died in protecting our freedom. Some military members choose to wear their uniform to show their respect. We will play Taps and pray for our country. By the end of this summer we will have sent at least seven mission teams. Four are local, one in Alabama, two are national, and the last is International. In addition, several of our students are serving in ministry related positions. Such unselfsh service delights my heart. 1J2 is an intentional mission week to reach local families . Stacy Walker and Zac Scanlon have felt called to lead this ministry. Te frst of three weeks is June 2-6. Check out their Facebook link on how to help. (Search for 1J2 Ministries on Facebook) Carpenters for Christ will be in Kentucky this year (June 4-14). God blesses this week abundantly. Tey build people, not just steeples. By the way, 1 John 2:2 is a verse you need to know. It reminds us that Christ died for everyone, not just us. Tats why we do all these mission trips, so others will know of the salvation He ofers. Occasionally I write my prayer to express my heart. Tis is from a year ago. Because You love me so deeply, I want to be the pastor You had in mind when You called me to Eastmont. Help me to let go of the present we have worked hard to build, in order that we may receive a new and better future. Prepare me for the chaos, pain and misunderstanding that some will feel. Help us to change quickly enough to make a diference in this generation. Help us to move carefully enough so we can all stay together. Nostalgia begs me to stay. Your Spirit drives me forward. I want to follow you. 6/1/2013 What is Orange? What would happen if the very task you were charged with became something that others joined you in. Not only following your lead but also walking beside you in the very same calling. Te vision to which God has called us is to continue building on the mission that was given before I ever arrived on the scene as the Childrens Minister at Eastmont Baptist Church. Here is the vision that was written by the Childrens Ministry Team 15+ years ago: Partnering with parents to reach and teach children in such a way that they have the greatest opportunity to become growing followers of Christ. Lets break this down: 1. Connect with kids. 2. Partner with families. 3. Grow together in Christ. Tis is our end goal in whatever program, event, or curriculum we choose. Our Core Truths with Birth to Kindergarten God made me. God loves me. Jesus wants to be my friend forever. Our Core Truths in 1st- 6th Grade I can trust God no matter what. I need to make the wise choice. I should treat others the way I want to be treated. LESS IS MORE. In our ORANGE teaching strategy this is the back bone, the bottom line, the facts that are taught each Sunday, every meal time, and teaching moment we have as families. Lets continue together!
