Kalakadu Maha Ganapathy temple, Parippu, Kottayam

K Ananda Ram

Kalakadu Illam and Kalakadu Ganapathy, both have an importance in the history of
Kerala and hence they both are important pilgrim centers in the map of Kerala. Devotees
like Viluamangalathu Swamyiar (Leelasukan) have visited this temple, and have done
Pooja’s to the Mahaganapathy here.

The members of this family were Great Tantris and have been blessed by Lord
Parasurama. They were well known Manthrika’s too. However, Manthrika Vidya’s were
performed only for the prosperity of the People. They believed in Karma Bandhas. There
are so many Seva Moorthis in Kalakadu Illam and Nithya poojas are performed to all the
all the Moortis.

The important festival in this temple is Vinayaka Chathurthy. Sarpa pooja is also
perfomed here every year. There are two Vinayaka Shilpams in this temple. The one
that is made in panchaloham is standing and the other one is in the sitting position. It is
very beautiful to see both the Ganapathi shilpams in one peetam and is very unique about
Kalakadu Ganapathi Temple.

Many devotees from all over India visit and do remedies for various reasons and perform
poojas for santhana soubhagyam etc.
