Atheists in United States

I Thought Id give my thoughts on the idea of being an Atheist in Americawhich, by the way, I
think is completely ridiculous. I get the fact that someone might decide to be an Atheist in any
other country, but really not in United StatesI just cant get my head around that!
Now, I understand that you might be having some trouble following where Im going with that,
so, before everything else, lets get a look at the definition of Atheism, shall we?
You dont even have to look too far. Wikipedia says that in a broader sense, Atheism is the
rejection of belief in the existence of deities. In a narrower sense, atheism is specifically the
position that there are no deities. Most inclusively, atheism is simply the absence of belief that
any deities exist. Atheism is contrasted with theism, which in its most general form is the belief
that at least one deity exists. Thus, an Atheist is someone who follow the line of thought of
Atheism. Ergo, my problem!
Perhaps, I should mention that its not just an Atheist living in United States that Im having
trouble understanding, but the American Atheist.
Now, we ask, What is the Motto of United States? United States of America, as a country, has a
motto, In God we trust. Such motto, in my understanding, defines every American. Therefore,
when someone says, I am an American, what that someone is actually saying is In God I
trust. Thus, this is why I find the idea of an American Atheist ridiculousat least, to some
level. Of course, one may still argue that in U.S.A. we have the freedom of speech, thought and
belief. But still, wouldnt that create a contradiction when youve already established that as a
country you believe in Godmeaning that every citizen of such country is defined by that same
belief?
It appears to my simple mind that one cannot trust something if, at least, such one doesnt
believe that that something exist, even as a possibility in the first place. It doesnt matter what
Intellectual BS you would come up with to explain your Atheistic position, once youre an
American, youre automatically stating that you believe in God. Then again, perhaps we should
review our definition of American. What are the characteristics of being American?
Perhaps this is for another day, when I have some more free time on my hand. Maybe, Ill take
the liberty of doing the same thing I just did here, by scribbling some of my thoughts (or
curiosities) on paper.
Until Next Time!
