Note:
The calculation for hm is made on the basic of the workpiece/tool geometry.
The total cutting time must allow for the entry and exit times. Axial
"chambering" is also possible with these interpolating milling cutters.
The application details shown depend on the environmental and application
conditions (e.g. machine, ambient temperature, use of lubricant/coolant and the
machining result required). These are subject to correct operating conditions,
correct application and compliance with the spindle speed limits given for the
tools.

Instructions for slot milling into the solid


Because of the design of the end milling cutter and the special geometry of the insert,
this tool is particularly suitable for producing feather key slots to DIN 138 and DIN 6885.
For this purpose the tools are arranged with an allowance below the nominal diameter.
The angles of entry given in the table are maximum values and should not be exceeded.

Two versions are used according to the slot length

Single angled entry


It it is not possible to obtain the required slot depth
by a single entry, this is achieved by entering more
than once.

of 0,8 mm when the milling cutter is reversed. If
this allowance is not made, the tool may be

The successful KOMET modular shell end milling cutter


programme F514 has been extended with a finish milling
cutter with internal coolant supply which has been fully
integrated into the F514 modular system. The new milling
cutter is used purely as a finishing tool and achieves cutting
depths in steel of up to 1.5 mm.
Extremely large cutting lenghts
With a diameter of 50 mm, the new shell end finish milling
cutter has a cutting length of 64 mm. The new shell end
finish milling cutter produces excellent surface finish results
extremely economically.
Extremely easy to handle
The finish milling cutter is fitted with radially adjustable
clamped carbide finishing inserts. The inserts are extremely
easily removed, making the milling cutter very light and easy
to handle. The finishing cutters which are 64 mm long, are
available in a range of carbide grades and can be used for
machining steel, cast iron and non-ferrous metals. The
cutting edges can be reground several times.
Shell end finish milling cutter make the ideal
addition to the KOMET milling system
The shell end finish milling cutter has been integrated into
the existing KOMET F514 milling cutter system and seperate
steep taper adaptors are not required. For economic
finishing the new shell end finish milling cutter offers an
alternative to conventional HSS shell end milling cutters and
is the ideal addition to KOMET's successful existing
programme.
1.20

1. Press adjusting screws and into basic body.


2. Slide the carbide inserts in from the front and check this
is in contact with the stop pin / base of the slot (the milling
diameter is then 49.7 mm).
3. Tighten clamping screws and slightly.
4. Set the insert in the front by drawing out the adjusting
screw from 0.03 mm to 0.02 mm below the nominal
diameter of 50 mm.
5. Set the insert in the rear to the nominal diameter of
50 mm using clamping screw .
6. Adjust the insert in the front to the 50 mm diameter
using adjusting screw .
7. After all the inserts have been set, tighten clamping
screws , and .
Particularly good surface qualities are obtained within a
concentricity tolerance of 0.025 mm.

Grinding Instructions
Boring and Facing Tool
The cutting edge overhang shown above runs through the
centre point of the boring head. However, the top rake which
is to be measured at right angles to the direction of the
cutting edge (dotted line), should be ground off obliquely
between 10 and 20 acc. to material.

Internal threading tool 55 or 60


The cutting edge must always run to the centrepoint (see
illustration) or the angle will be distorted. When
resharpening threading tools, use front edge of chamfered
grinding wheel.

whether thread is stressed at compression or tension.
Forms 1 and 2 can also be produced as L.H. threading tools
with cutting direction from headstock to tailstock for
forwards operation.
A separate blade is required for each pitch for form
threading tools.
Round Edison threads are three different thread types. For
buttress saw threading tools, please state whether the
thread is stressed for compression or tension.

Please note: As KOMET tools are used in so many different applications and are also
dependent on machines and range of tasks, we have shown general recommended
values. These will of course vary according to the feed rate used and the diameter of the
workpiece to be machined.
Note: The application details shown depend on the environmental and application
conditions (e.g. machine, ambient temperature, use of lubricant/coolant and the
machining result required). These are subject to correct operating conditions, correct
application and compliance with the spindle speed limits given for the tools.

Set the eccentric clamping element to the "off"


position with hexagonal key (as far as the stop). The
clamping mechanism is then released and the boring
bar can be changed (Fig. 1). Insert the new boring
bar into the clamping holder as far as the stop with
the flat surface upwards.
Tighten the eccentric clamping element with the key
to a maximum of 3 Nm (Fig. 2).
By turning the eccentric clamping element, the
boring bar is pushed out of the holder in the axial
position (0.01) and at the same time moved into
the exact centre height (0.01).
A click will indicate that the clamping mechanism
has been released.
