Chairman Munisteri,

This month, Progress Texas joined with Equality Texas in creating and
distributing a petition in support of the freedom to marry. In just a few days,
more than 12,000 Texans added their names, asking Republican statewide
elected officials and candidates to defend Texans freedom to marry.

The text of the petition read as follows:

Please defend the freedom of every Texan to marry the
person they love!

The future of our state is strengthened when all families are
protected by the security marriage affords. Texans across the
state are in loving and committed same-sex relationships.
These couples and families deserve the opportunity to build a
secure life together.

I am asking you to support the freedom to marry in Texas.

Many of the more than 12,000 people signing the petition are those who
identify as Republican voters. But they do not identify with the concept of
"reparative therapy."

Like the Log Cabin Republicans, Texas Young Republicans, and the
Republican Liberty Caucus we strongly urge the Republican Party of
Texas to be more inclusive of loving Texas families seeking the opportunity
to build a secure life together.

We hope you consider the voices of the thousands of Texans who signed
this petition to ask their elected officials to recognize the freedom of every
Texan to marry the person they love.

Sincerely,

Chuck Smith
Executive Director, Equality Texas
