Scientists believe species are becoming
extinct at the rate of 1 every 15
minutes...100 each day...and 4,000-6,000
each year.
Some estimates indicate that as much as
one fifth of all the species on earth today will
have vanished by the end of the century.

What is an Endangered Animal?
An endangered animal is one whose
species is on the verge of going
extinct unless steps are taken soon
to rescue it.
Pollutants and other threats in its
habitat are factors that cause
endangerment.
When an animal becomes extinct, it
is gone forever!
What is a Threatened Animal?
A threatened animal is one that will
likely become endangered unless
steps are taken soon to reverse
habitat destruction and/or pollution.
These designations are made by a
group of biologists who study these
animals and are familiar with their
needs and numbers.
