THINGS NOT TO WASTE

From the 10 Things We Waste written by Imaam Ibn Qayyim Al
Jawziyyah this collection of pondering writings urges the soul to realize
and make use of them.

PART 2

TEN THINGS NOT TO WASTE
RAMADHAN 1435

Bismillah Ar Rahman Ar Raheem.

Assalamu'alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

Alhamdulillah. May Allah bless you my brother or sister in islam, for having the effort
to download this PDF for the second time.

Amin.

As promised this is the second part of the 10 things not to waste PDF, here Imam Ibn
Al Qayyim continues to pin point the things we waste by not giving them such
emphasis in our lives.

Through these pages, I spoke with a heart yearning to make you realize that these things
are worthy and are very valuable when used in the right way. Its very concise as I do
not want to take so much time of yours reading this, as I know we should get going
with our ibadah more than any other time of the year these days.

So, if you find fault in anything written here then I ask all of you to please forgive me
and advise you to take the good and leave the bad in sha Allah.

May Allah Azza Wa Jall reward you all for having the intention to learn more about our
deen, I pray He guides us all to the path of those whom He have guided before.

Amin

SIX
Our Love
Wasted because our emotional love is misdirected, not towards Allah but
towards something else or someone else.

Sometimes we do love someone so much to the extent that we depend
upon his/her love to survive each day, right?

We all go through that, and that is just wrong.

I once read about the types of shirk, it says there are two types of shirk, the
greater and the lesser shirk and within the greater shirk were four
subcategories and to my surprise, shirk in love was among the four, and it
is to love someone as Allah should be loved.

Sometimes we do something without knowledge, but come to think of it,
we all know that we are going to die someday, so if we actually depend our
lives upon these people we love, we would be committing suicide as soon
as we learn they died, right?

Yes, it will hurt that no words can describe but if we were to depend our
lives upon such people, do you think there would be people who would
reach the ages 50 or 60? Ponder hard.
True love can only be found in Allah, because true love lasts forever, and
Allah is Al Hayy The Ever Living, so if you love Him, so does the love
becomes Ever Living, that death would just be another door to know and
see Him in the akhirah.

If you are on an emotional wreck right now, then remember the pain that
our Prophet Muhammad SAWS went through when he lost Khadijah RA,
it was said that He was so affected that the path of the his tears marked his
face, subhanAllah, and that only seeing Allah Azza Wa Jall became the
remedy to his lost and sorrow.

He loved, but Allah Azza Wa Jall was everything. Or if you have lost a
loved one, a mother or a father, then remember the pain of Fatimah RA
when she lost our Prophet Muhammad SAW, did she commit suicide or
wanted to end her life? No, she didnt, she moved on and situated her love
towards Allah more.

There are lots of examples that I can give you about the beautiful and
amazing love stories that no Romeo and Juliet or Tristan and Isolde love
stories could match, and these are the love stories of the great Sahabah
Radiyallahu Anhum.
Such were their love towards their spouse, their children, to their family,
relatives, tribes and of course upon our Prophet Muhammad SAWS, and
no other people can match the love of the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum
towards Prophet Muhammad SAWS.
So think about it, if their love towards the Prophet SAWS was as others
claim- misdirected or over-loving would you think, there would be the
likes of Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthmaan, Ali Radiyallahu Anhum left to lead
the Muslims after him?
If there is something that Allah Azza Wa Jall has given us extra, it would be
our intelligence, we have desire, yes but he also gave us the intelligence to
ponder to control and to not waste. Do not love with all the heart that you
leave nothing for yourself.
Allah Azza Wa Jall created you in the best form, you do not need someone
to tell you youre beautiful or youre handsome because know that it is
the Best of Creators that created you, and no one can surpass that.

Depend you life upon Allah Azza Wa Jall, love him endlessly, love him
with all the Love, because He does not die, rather the love will flourish and
flourish until the day you meet Him. In sha Allah.

No man or woman can love you the way Allah loves you.

SEVEN
Our Time
Wasted because it is used properly, to compensate for that which has passed,
by doing what is righteous to make up to make up for past deeds.

Once, when I was still in college, I was trying to ask my professor to give
me more time for my paper work to be passed and her reply truly changed
my perspective in, well yeah, in life.
She told me, Time doesnt wait, only love waits.
I chuckled, really, because when she said that I didnt really give enough
pondering about it, but as I have encountered similar situations through
out my college time, I said to myself, this is true.
Time never waits, it will pass on, no matter how much you want to stop it
or slow it down, it will never wait for you, you have to catch up with it, you
are always on a race with time, and only those who give emphasis and value
on time stays on track.
So how are you coping up with you time?
How are you making the most of your time in this world, when you know
your time does pass by but also it will end on a time prescribed by Allah
Azza Wa Jall.
We all have to realize that this time we have in this world, is both a
blessing and test for us. Dont you think its the time for us to give value to
this blessing? Dont you think its the right time to raise our hands and
repent for all the things we have done?
Or will we be lazy enough and continue believing that theres still enough
time? I will be honest to you, every beat of your heart lessens your time in
this world, you are dying, you might not be sick and full of youth and
strength but Im telling you that youre dying, since you were born.
Know that everything in your life has been written already, the time you
are going to die, how you would die, where will you die, at what age you
will die, everything is written and only a dua can change this, by the Will
of Allah Azza Wa Jall.
Im not going to tell you theres still enough time, but I will you tell you
whats real, youre time is running out, so fix your life, come back to Allah
Azza Wa Jall, regret, repent, forgive.
Yes, your time is running out, but again, its never too late to reconnect
with Allah Azza Wa Jall.
Make use of your time in the best and most halal way, try this personal
method of mine, and you can do this every before salah or every after
salah, I call it the press 15.
For 15 minutes you will engage yourself only with Allah Azza Wa Jall.
3 minutes for dhikr - remember of Allah, just remember Him
3 minutes for glorification- exalt Allah, glorify Him with His Names
3 minutes of gratefulness try to enumerate His blessings on you &
thank Him with all your heart.
3 minutes of repentance regret all the wrong youve done then repent.
3 mintues of istighfar- ask Him for His forgiveness, sincerely.
Its my personal method which helps me in remembering Allah all the
time, even if you are just sitting and in a quiet place, try this method, make
at least 15 minutes of your time worthy. In sha Allah.

Do not be among those people who were given time yet wasted it for the luxuries of
this temporal life.

EIGHT
Our Intellect
Wasted on things that are not beneficial, that are detrimental to society and
the individual, not in contemplation or reflection.

Moderation is the key.
Be moderate, right? Easy to say, hard to do.
I wanted to share you a story that always reminds me that I need to know,
understand and learn things about my religion, why? This story might
answer that. (I am rephrasing the story, so if anyone knows about the story, forgive
me if I have lessen or added some words, but let the thought of it count. In sha
Allah.)
Once there were three men, two were successful in their fields, one was
a doctor and one was an engineer, and one didnt finished college but
was literate enough to read and write.
All of them were very intellectual people, but the third one didnt excel
in the academic field, rather in the religious studies, yet he was always
told that he couldnt find a living for it and all these negative things.
But the third one, being the youngest, stayed with his father, among the
three he was the first one to marry because of his religious beliefs, he
worked with a good pay just enough to make his family eat and sleep in a
good bed, while the two men havent married as they were still enjoying
their time as successful bachelors.
Then their father died.
All the three men were present, and the elders of the family were asking,
what will we do for his burial?
One of the elders asked the eldest among the three, the doctor, he said,
he doesnt know the rituals of what to do when a Muslim dies, so the
elder came to the second son, the engineer, he said, he doesnt know the
rituals of what to do when a Muslim dies, so the elder had no more
choice but come to the youngest, the one they discriminate for not being
successful, and ask of what to do.
And to the surprise of the family, he knew what to do, he was the only
one who knew what to do to bury their father.
What is the moral of this story? Yes, let us reflect.
I am not saying that you shouldnt be a lwayer, an engineer or a doctor, ma
sha Allah we need people like this for the Ummah, but what this story tells
you is that the knowledge of your deen is obligatory for you to learn, to
know and to understand.
Because life in this world will end, is it wrong to be a doctor yet religiously
knowledgeable as well?
We struggle, indeed we struggle to finish with flying colors in our academic
life, in our secular studies but do we give even half of that effort to our
Islamic studies, do we give even time to read the words of Allah?
Indeed, the ilm we get from the deen is the only beneficial thing that will
help us in the akhirah. We can never deny that.

If you have time to read piles of books for your school, then have also the time to
read one book for your akhirah.

NINE
Our Service
Wasted in service of someone who will not bring us closer to Allah, or
benefit in the dunya.

Yes, we work.
We work for someone, we work to support our family, we work for so
many reasons, but the question is do we give same amount of effort,
tolerance and passion in our service to the One who truly deserves it?
Of course, we do need to work, but dont make your work a barrier
between you and Allah, nor make it a barrier between you and your family,
do not be someone whom his work has purchased him or her.
Remember and ponder on the field of work you are in, always keep in
mind that if this work disturbs you from your salah, then let go of it for
Allah Azza Wa Jall will surely replace it with something so much better.
Choose a job that will help you maintain such consistency in your worship
in Allah, because realize that you can earn so much in this dunya by giving
such labor and passion in your work but also remember that with these
passion you might let go of the greatest thing, and that is your worship to
Allah Azza Wa Jall.
I really dont have so much to say about this thing, because we all know
with all the blessings we are given by Allah, by the abundant Mercy He
bestows upon us, we are forever in debt to Him, the least we could ever do
is to not let go of our salah.

Be always in service for Allah.

TEN
Our Dhikr
Wasted because it doesnt affect our hearts.

Have you ever remembered Allah just because you should always keep Him
in your mind?
Or do you only remember Him at times of need or help?
Have you ever felt that tingle in your heart whenever you say Ya Allah?
Its fascinating whenever you remember your celebrity crush and you go
loco or loca about them yet when someone actually reminds you of
Allah, you give them the tiger look, why?
Youre going loco and loca for someone who doesnt even know your
name nor doesnt even know you yet you go angry when someone reminds
you of the One who Created You?
SHAME. What a shame, really.
Why cant we feel grateful whenever we say Ya Allah?
Why cant you be actually be grateful when you know your Lord, is ever
Merciful, ever Generous all these things, yet you dont feel anything nor be
affected with the utterance of His Name.
It is very true that the Sahabah Radiyallahu Anhum would tremble in fear
and would cry whenever they were told Fear Allah.
You know why?
Because they loved Allah sincerely, they loved Him so much that they do
not want to earn His Wrath nor His Displeasure. SubhanAllah.
Yet here you are, doing all these things that displeases Allah, Astagfirullah.
You want to know how close you are to Him?
Yes, check your salah and everything but also check, utter Ya Allah, in a
solemn night, only you, alone and just feel the silence and utter Ya Allah,
and see how this affects you, if it doesnt affect you, then you have to find
that sincerity back.
The remembrance of Allah doesnt affect only the mind,
but also the heart and soul.
