Texas 4 th Congressional District Survey Ratcliffe 12 Points Up over Hall
Rockwall, TX- Texas 4 th Congressional District Republicans are lining up behind former U.S. Attorney John Ratcliffes candidacy for Congress and are ready for a new voice to represent them in Washington. Those are the recent findings of a poll conducted on behalf of Now or Never PAC. The poll shows Ratcliffe up 12 points, at 47%-35%, over the 34 year incumbent Ralph Hall.
Based on these findings, Now or Never PAC plans to invest resources in support of Ratcliffes candidacy, giving voters an alternative to incumbent Ralph Hall. At 90, Ralph Hall is the oldest member of Congress in U.S. history. Hall was elected in 1980, the same year Pac Man debuted and Jimmy Carter was still President. After 34 years in Washington and voting repeatedly for debt ceiling increases and wasteful earmarks, voters are ready to bring Ralph Hall home.
Wenzel Strategies conducted a telephone survey of 436 likely Republican Primary voters in TX CD4, March 12-13, 2014. Results below.
POLLING MEMORANDUM FROM: Fritz Wenzel, President, Wenzel Strategies RE: Survey of Likely Republican Primary Voters in TX CD4 The Wenzel Strategies survey of likely Republican Primary Election voters in TX CD4 shows that while many have a favorable opinion of longtime incumbent Ralph Hall, they think it is time for someone else to represent them in Washington D.C The poll shows that John Ratcliffe would defeat Hall in a primary election by a double-digit margin, 47% to 35%. Another 17% said they were unsure in the head-to-head matchup.
Halls re-elect number is particularly bad, as just 33% of his political base think that he should continue in office, while 67% said it is time for someone new. This sentiment is linked directly to Halls advanced age, as respondents were informed that he is 90 years old and has served in Congress for the last 34 years.
Even among his contemporaries those voters in the district age 75 or older, Ratcliffe leads by a 56% to 39% margin. In fact, Hall wins more support among younger voters, no doubt partly because he is the only congressman those voters have ever known.
While Hall leads among political moderates, Ratcliffe enjoys significant leads among conservatives and those who self-identify as very conservative. Hall leads by a 48% to 42% margin among moderates, but Ratcliffe enjoys a 19-point lead among conservatives and a 17-point lead among the very conservative, which provides him with the foundation of an overall lead that it appears Hall would have trouble overcoming.
A problem facing Hall is that he is a well-known quantity in the district, and it appears those who should make up his political base have decided it is time for a change.
It is also notable but not surprising that many voters in the district are disenchanted with what is going on politically in Washington D.C., and that Hall is just one more incumbent who must face an angry electorate.
