JOB SUMMARY: Flexible schedule required - weekdays, evenings and rotating weekends. Schedule will be discussed at interview. Library Maintenance Workers perform interior and exterior maintenance and cleaning tasks to provide a pleasant, inviting environment for Library customers and staff members.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: 1. Cleans and provides general upkeep of Library buildings, inside and outside 90% a. Cleans interior facilities, including: Vacuum, shampooing and cleaning carpets Stripping, cleaning and waxing floors Cleaning furniture, ceilings and walls Sanitizing restrooms b. Changing lamps and cleaning and repairing fixtures c. Maintains exterior grounds by raking, mowing, pruning, watering and removing snow d. Washes the interior and exterior of Library buildings e. Removes garbage and monitors recycling of paper refuse f. Maintains and performs minor repair on equipment and furniture such as snow blowers, mowers, air conditioners, furnaces, furniture, and shelving g. Provides support to other library staff members in monitoring and correcting problem customer behavior h. Sets up furniture and equipment for library events and programs
2. Performs office work regarding maintenance, and keeps to general work code 10% a. Maintains documentation as required b. Maintains good public relations with other library departments c. Transports supplies and equipment, such as costumes and program materials, among library locations to meet tight deadlines d. Complies with all safety and quality assurance standards and procedures
SECONDARY DUTIES:
a. Performs special projects as necessary (such as assembling furniture, scaffolding, picking up and delivering costumes and program materials, unclogging sewer systems, painting, etc.) b. Performs related functions as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Education and Experience: High School Diploma, plus three years of experience in general custodial work; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: Basic knowledge of library operations, services and materials. Knowledge of methods, materials and equipment used in general housekeeping and maintenance. Knowledge of minor repair techniques for maintaining equipment. Ability to operate various types of maintenance equipment. Ability to determine types of paint and areas to paint safely and efficiently. Ability to recognize safety issues and problems. Ability to prioritize and plan activities. Ability to work independently with minimum supervision. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative and courteous working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to meet the flexible scheduling needs of the Library. Basic computer skills, including keyboarding, word processing and email.
