Dear Mr. Anderson,

I have heard great feedback about your architecture firm and admire the work that it has
produced. I have heard that you are an award winning firm which specializes in the innovative
and progressive residential and commercial design. I saw your employment add on your website,
and I believe that I could greatly benefit your firm. I read on your website that your firm is set up
around an architectural design studio philosophy of current methodology, technology and
materials, which I personally believe is the perfect work environment. As you stated, a studio
setting not only provides creativity, but it also allows for a collaborative work environment. I am
confident that I have all of the required skills and talent necessary to be a member of your team.
Listed below is some further information about myself as well as a resume.

I will be graduating from North Dakota State University, which has one of the top fifteen
Landscape Architecture programs in the Nation, in 2012. I will graduate with a bachelor’s degree
in both Landscape Architecture and Environmental Design, as well as a minor in Natural
Resources Management. Upon completion of my schooling, I will have studied all areas of the
landscape architecture design field. These include; parks and public spaces, environmental art,
community design, urban design, environmental remediation, environmental planning and
graphic design.

I have always been interested in art and its processes. In High School, I was a member of the Art
Club, which helped me to acquire an artistic eye. I believe an artistic eye is important to anyone
in the design field.

Your website states that you are looking for someone fluent in computer programs such as
AutoCad and Adobe Photoshop. From my resume you will see, I am familiar with the following
computer programs:
• Adobe Photoshop
• Adobe InDesign
• Adobe Illustrator
• AutoCad
• SketchUp
• Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel

I have had the opportunity to incorporate all of the above software programs into my design
projects while in school. I have become extremely fluent in working with these programs, having
designed with them for three consecutive years now; however, I also have many other beneficial
skills. These skills include, an artistic eye, problem solving skills, communication skills, people
skills, and most importantly, the processes of design. During my education, one of my Landscape
Architecture professors, Stevie Famulari, told me, “The most important thing to learn while you
are in school, is the ability to think your way through an entire project.” I believe that I have
mastered the art of “thinking for myself,” and Look forward to sharing my knowledge, as well as
learning from you and your staff.
Sincerely,

Chelsea R. Akers
