Jean Rothermel Roland
November 23,1920 - February 19, 2002
missionaries in India at the
time. At an early age Jean accepted Christ as her
personal Savior and was baptized into Him.
At the time of death, Mrs. Roland was a resident of
Bison, KS, where the family maintained residence
from the year 1969.
Jean graduated fromWoodstock High School in
Mussoorie, U.R.INDIA in 1938. She earned her
Bachelors Degree from Cincinnati Bible Seminary,
Cincinnati, OH in 1943. She earned her Masters
Degree in Speech and Drama from Fort Hays State
College, Hays, KS in 1968. She also earned her LPN
and RNdegrees from Dodge City Community
College, Dodge City, KS, and Barton County Commu
nity College, Great Bend, KS.
Mrs. Roland served, with her husband, as a
missionary in India from 1947 to 1997 in various
capacities: Bible college staff and teacher, orphanage
director, staff and teacher at Woodstock School, nurse
in a leprosy treatment and control program.
She is survived by her husband, William H.
Roland, to whom she was married on July 12,1943 at
Rockport, Dj. She is also survived by sons Charles W
Roland, Pasadena, MD; David L. Roland, Season, IL;
and Paul S. Roland, Miami, PL; and by a daughter,
Mary Esther Boonaerts, Opglabbeek, Belgium;
Surviving also are seven grandsons and one grand
daughter as well as three great-granddaughters.
Mrs. Roland was preceded in death by her
parents. Sterling 0. and Zoena S. Rothermel, eind two
brothers, Paul Rothermel and Charles Rothermel.
The family is requesting memorials be sent to
First Christian Church, LaCrosse, KS, for the Lakeview
Bible College in Madras, India, where Jean and
William spent their last years of service in India.

teaching positions at the Bilingual Christian
Academy in San Pedro Sula, Honduras for the
2002-2003 school year. This is a new school in
the heart of the industrial capital of Honduras.
Teachers are needed for Pre-K, Kindergarten and
1st grade. Spanish is not a necessity (although it
would certainly come in handy). Some support
