County, travelers gain some
breathing room.
While sparse with people,
Kittitas County is crowded with things to do,
from skiing on the slopes of Snoqualmie Pass to
boating on the waters of the Columbia River and
various mountain lakes.
It’s a county that is the gateway to the Alpine
Lakes Wilderness Area, and also the home of
cultural and intellectual pursuits at Central
Washington University.

E
aston has a long history. It got its name because it
was the first town east of the Cascades.
Easton is a little community just off Exit 70 of
Interstate 90, 15 miles west of Cle Elum. It started
out as a railroad town but is probably best known
today for snowmobiles, berry picking and the Memorial Day
Parade and celebration.
The parade, which began in the 1990s, is something in
which the town takes pride. The celebration includes a
pancake breakfast, car show, a street fair, live music, karaoke,
raffles and a street dance.
Lake Easton State Park is one of the area’s attractions. It is a
forested, 516-acre park with both summer and winter access.
