out your investment pyramid, you’ll need to consider your risk tolerance, time horizon,
short- and long-term goals and other factors. So, if you are a fairly conservative investor,
you might place fewer investment dollars in the “aggressive” layer than someone who was
willing to take more chances in exchange for potentially higher returns.

However, the various weightings within your investment pyramid will likely change over
time. As you near retirement, for example, you may want to move some — but certainly
not all — of your investments from the “growth” layer to the "growth and income" or
“income” layers. An investment professional can help you review your evolving family and
financial situations and make recommendations on what changes you may need to make to
your pyramid.

Pyramids last a long time. And if you build and maintain your investment pyramid with
care, you can keep it working efficiently for many years to come.

If the longevity of a business is any gauge of its

quality of service, then the Firestone Complete Auto Care
establishment in downtown Springfield may rank highly in
the auto care industry in this area. Firestone has occupied
the corner of Sixth and American Legion Avenue, 407
South Sixth Street to be exact, since 1927.
Quality service that stands the test of time, howev-
er, has people behind it. In Firestone’s case, it is Phil
Fromme.
Many of Firestone’s patrons are workers from the
downtown area. However, Fromme, the store’s manager, is
quick to point out that he also has a faithful customer base
from Jacksonville.
“I also worked at several places in Jacksonville for
a lot of years,” he says. When he began working at
Firestone, many of his customers stayed with him. “I’d like
to believe that they learned that I take good care of my cus-
tomers and they stayed with me for that reason,” he says.
Additionally, there are some companies located in
Jacksonville, such as Wood Wheels, Inc. and Jacksonville
Auto Mart, that continue to maintain a regular business with
him.
Fromme, who lives in Alexander, has been the
manager at Firestone for three years. His son Sam, of
Jacksonville, joined him in the business about a year ago.
The Frommes, along with the other Firestone staff,
provide a full range of automobile care services. In addi- Firestone is located at 407 South 6th Street in Springfield, IL. They are open 7am - 6pm Monday - Saturday.

tion to providing tires for all makes of autos, such as
domestic cars, luxury cars, sports utility vehicles, imports
and pickups, they also perform preventative maintenance,
work on heating and cooling systems, brakes, steering, and
suspensions—you name it and they do it. According to
Fromme, they work on everything “except a dent.”
In fact, repairs and maintenance make up about 75
percent of the business and tires, about 25 percent.
For these services, Fromme has on staff several
ASE-certified technicians. Technicians attain certification
through programs and testing by the national Institute for
Automotive Service Excellence. The institute awards the
only nationally recognized credentials for automobile serv-
ice personnel.
Fromme himself is an ASE-certified master techni-
cian. He received his initial certification in 1974.
According to the ASE program, recertification is required
every five years to keep technicians up to date on the latest
in automotive technology and advancements.
Thus, while a brand name and a well-established
business help to ensure the continued success of Firestone
Complete Auto Care, so, too, does its well-trained and
experienced staff.
Fromme’s customer service is not limited to the
quality of repair work, however. It is extended to the care
of the customer, also. Phil Fromme, Firestone Manager is pictured above with his son and employee, Sam. Photo by Stacie Lewis.
