The teacher may use whatever method Corkeeping record of tardiness she finds convenient. Some enter the number of minutes
late in the square space, while others indicate tardiness by a period.
You will note that two names are enrolled in the second space in the model. This is done to conserve space. umber 2
(Edward Prescott) was dropped on first Wednesday of the fourth month. Number 29 (James Brown) entered second Tuesday of
the fifth month and used this space until the close of term. This arrangement is resorted to only when all the name spaces are
full and enough pupils have been dropped to accommodate the new entries. Draw an asterisk (*) in the space immediately preced-
i ng the day of entry and also one following name of pupil thus entering.
MONTHL Y GRADES. At the end of each month the teacher should place-the pupil's grade made during the month in
the space opposite his name on the "Grade Record," arranged for monthly grades. This grade may be found from an average of
his daily class grades, or by a system of weekly or monthly written tests. It is intended to show the quality of class work the pupil
is doing from month to month. The monthly grade should also be placed on the pupil's "Report to Parents."
At the close of the year the averages of each pupil's monthly grades should be carried to the page arranged Cor "Grade
Summary" in the space indicated "Class Grade Av. for Term."
BI-MONTHLY EXAMINATIONS. The State Department of Education issue every two months 'during the school year,
a series of examination questions based on the Course of Study. This simplifies your work in a material way and offers a splendid
stimulus to wholesome rivalry and class animation among the pupils.
The results of the bi-monthly examinations must be recorded in the space provided in this record and become a part of the
permanent records of the school. The averages should also be carried to the page arranged for "Grade Summary."
STANDARD SCHOOL. A great movement is now on foot in this State providing for "standardization" of rural schools,
and the requirements of the State Department of Education are incorporated herein.
The teacher should mark the items in which she realizes that the school does not meet the requirements for standardization,
by placing (X) in space opposite such item. ,
GAMES AND PLAYS. Proper games and plays indicate the spirit of the school. They encourage wholesome rivalry
and enable pupils to study traits of strength and weakness of character among their fellows. They add to the interest of the school,
strengthen the child physically, and sharpen his intellectual activities. They stimulate the tired mind and body by a happy
reaction which lends keenness to school work. Place an (X) following the games played during the term.
For information as to where you can obtain these games and plays, write your County Superintendent or the publishers of
this Register.
HOME WORK. The space devoted to this item is prepared lor counties in which the Superintendent has installed a regu-
lar system of giving credits to pupils for home work. In counties where the system is not in vogue this space should be left blank.
COMMUNITY INTEREST MEETINGS. The idea of the "school and home working together for the good of the child"
is gaining in favor from year to year. The community interest meetings augment this growing sentiment and should be encouraged.
Record in space provided for these meetings the kind of meeting and date, and on important occasions record the minutes in
space provided ____________________________

TEACHER'S REMARKS: In making this program I have followed the State Course of Study as nearly as possible
and alternated classes as suggested therein.
I have found it necessary to alternate in certain other classes as indicated above. This was done in order to give neces-
sary time for recitation period. It also aroused a wholesome spirit of class interest and animation by conserving larger classes.
The general period in writing was mostly used in movement drills and the period just preceding the writing time was set
apart as a practice period and pupils would get their writing material quietly and practice on exercise given them the day before,
thus being in readiness at the opening of the writing period. '
By "Copying" and "Reviewing" is mean.t time for the class to take down work suggested for next recitation and to assimilate
what has just been passed over. The time for Arithmetic classes was so short that I assigned blackboard work to pupils in next
grade so as to save time. Eighth grade recited spelling three days and classics two days in each week. The ninth grade recited
Civics three days and Kansas History two days in each week.
This is the way the program stood at close of term.
