FOSS CREW IN PERU

Weare entering into one of my favourite times of year. As I say that, I pause to think of why

it is so. Is it the arrival of the cooler weather in Canada (hot weather here in Peru), the gifts, spending time with
~ family and friends, Christmas pageants, or the decorations? Certainly I will not pretend that I do not enjoy those
things, I do, but Christmas holds so much more meaning than these passing things. The other day our pastor asked
us "How do you picture Jesus? Is it as a baby in a manger? A dying man on a cross? Or do you see Him as the God
of eternity." It caused me to think. Do I realize what a precious gift I have been given? How often do I fail to remember that the
God of eternity came to take my place so that I could live with Him! He is Holy. He is Precious. He is Perfect. He is Em-
manuel-God with us. He is the creator of all things and He loves me! It gives me goose bumps just to think about it. I don't
deserve such a gift, no one does. Yet He came and lived, died and rose again so that we could live. Me, you and all who will
receive Him. That is why it is special to me. That is why we celebrate. The greatest gift oflove one can receive. The fulfillment
of God's promise of a Savior. It is my hope that you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior this day and that you are filled with joy
as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping
watch over their flocks at night. An angel if the Lord appeared to
them, and the glory if the Lord shone around them, and they were
terrified. But the angel said to them, "Do not be eifraid. I bring you
good news if great joy that will befor all the people. Today in the
town if David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.
This will be a sign to you:You willfind a baby wrapped in cloths and
lying in a manger. "
Suddenly a gre~t company if the heavenly host appeared with the
angel, praising God and saying,
"Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace to men on whom hisfavour rests. " A tile mural in the town of Antioquia

In October I was blessed to have three ladies from

II
Forward Baptist Church in Cambridge working
~ with me for two weeks. We had a wonderful time
of fellowship. Ruth brought along her love for
music and taught us a few new songs. Everyone
enjoyed this time of singing and lifting our voices in worship to
our Lord. Jen taught us how to make bags/purses. For many of
the moms it was the first time they had ever sewn in a zipper.
They were even more excited that they got to keep their sewing
projects and they now use them every day. The most wonderful
thing about our time together was the genuine love and care that
these three ladies showed our moms. They shared their testimo-
nies with us, their talents and their love for the Lord. It was great
to see how God used them during their time here and to see Him
working in them. Thank you Grace, Ruth and Jen for your love
and compassion for these women, For following God's leading

We are moving!
This month completed out two year rental contract with our landlord. We were very
disappointed when she came and told us that she wanted to increase the rent by $ 300 a
month so we have chosen to move elsewhere. This presented us with a challenge to find a
place close to Fetzer (the girls school) as well as close enough to travel to Manchay and
Pachacamac daily. Weare praising God for His perfect faithfulness and how He always
knows our needs. Yesterday we found a new apartment in the same community where we
have been for the past two years. We will be moving the first week of January. Please pray
for us as we are packing and preparing to move, that we would be wise in knowing what to
take with us and what we can sell or donate to others that we won't need any longer. Also
please be praying that we will settle in well, before our company comes in January.

Where is Tyler?
Many of you know Tyler and you know him very well. If this is the
case, you know that he does not just sit and relax. He is always on the
go. He is kept very busy with all of his construction and maintenance
responsibilities, has many friends in Manchay whom he likes to visit, is
very active in the church there, and has rediscovered an old hobby of his
in the form of trout fishing. All of this is not to say that he spends no
time at all with the family because somehow he manages a few hours at
the girls favourite park as well, watching them play on the playground
or enjoying the music and dance displays at the local amphitheatre.
Construction and maintenance is a huge part of what Tyler does,
overseeing all projects in Lima, Manchay and Pachacamac. New respon-
sibilities are coming from the construction in Andahuaylas as of late,
but it is yet to be seen how many teams will be going there and what
amount of prer.aration will need to be made for them. Construction is nearing an end in Manchay and we really hope that in
the next year it can be wrapped up. In Pachacamac construction is just really getting started and we have many more years of
opportunities for teams to come and help. Tyler loves working with the teams, getting to meet new people and each year
receiving back many of our repeat friends. This coming year the number of work teams is down quite a bit, probably because
of the financial struggles in North America, so if God has been speaking to you about coming down here please consider it
because we have lots of dates available.
Construction has also been an item of discussion at our church in Manchay. The men of the church have poured a new con-
crete floor and are planning on moving the nursery and a Sunday school room to the new concrete floor to make room for
what will be our new auditorium. Tyler does a discipleship course with these men on Thursday nights and lots of fun is had
both on those nights and the Saturdays that they are working at the church.
Our pastor and his family are leaving to go to the U.S. on furlough for a couple months and the men of the church have
been called on to fill in for him during some of the Sunday and Wednesday night services. Tyler has expressed an iriterest in
helping with this and would appreciate your prayers as he seeks God's leading. If he were to fill in it would only be a service
or two.
Last but not least, some of Tyler's time is relaxing downtime spent on the river fishing. When Pastor Greg and Marianne
were here in October we went for a drive along the local river. When we got up higher into the mountains, Tyler noted that
the river looked good for trout fishing. Well since then two trips have been made and over 30 trout have been caught. For
those of you who know about trout fishing, those are some pretty good numbers. This time on the river is a real relaxing
time for Tyler, a time that he uses to clear his head. Praise God that such a relaxing activity can be done in such a beautiful
place and that close to our home.
We are looking forward to spending our second Christmas in Peru as a family. This year we will celebrate
by having a few of our Peruvian friends over for dinner. For Brenda this will be the first time she has ever
t. Jt cooked a turkey. Yes, you read that right. One of the great things about having good cooks in our ex-
~ tended family in Canada is that someone else always makes the turkey. But not this year. How different
can it be from cooking a chicken? We will let you know how it goes.
In January we are looking forward to a visit from Ruth (Tyler's mom) and Hannah's good friend Dana. Hannah is very
excited to see Dana again and is busy planning all that she thinks they can fit in during their two weeks together. Some
other exciting news in our family is that Myah lost her first tooth a few weeks ago and has started reading in school. She
loves her class and her teacher. Sarah continues to enjoy her flute lessons and it is nice for us to hear her playing a few
songs along with her scales.
We hope your hearts are filled with Joy as we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
With love in Christ
Tyler, Brenda, Hannah, Sarah and Myah.

• For the wonderful time of fellowship we had with Greg and Marianne. Their visit was a huge blessing to
us and we hope they will be able to return one day.
We have found a new place to live in the same neighbourhood that we have been living in for the past
two years
We have found a new teacher for the moms sewing classes. Her name is Carmen and she is a very
talented seamstress. She is a new believer and we have the opportunity to minister to her as well.
