Introduction
It is recognized that perfection is difficult to
achieve and that the cost of a perfect
product would usually be prohibitive.
However, there are defined standards that
must be met for every customer.
Quality assurance and quality control are
the processes used to ensure that the
project deliverables meet the project
objectives and are of an appropriate
quality.

Role of QA/QC Department

1. Verify that requirements are followed,


2. Verify that controlling and checking an
activity have been done,
3. Ensure that approved working methods
are established,
4. Evaluate the reported principal causes of
non-conformances;
5. Evaluate the effectiveness of corrective
action, and
6. Determine where improvements are
required

Assurance

• Super-checking activity.
• Responsible for engineering decisions.
• A massive paper generator.
• A major cost area.
• A panacea for all ills.

• Cost-effective.
• An aid to productivity.
• A means of getting it right first time every
time.
• Good management sense, and, most
importantly;
• The responsibility of everyone.

Quality Assurance

In addition to in-process activities,


quality assurance includes:
– an array of activities external to the
process
– activities undertaken to determine
customer needs.

• Additional work to a normal day to day


tasks
• Unnecessary documentation to complete
a project
• Additional cost to a project
• A 100% inspection of completed tasks
• A guarantee that all works are complying
to requirements

Quality Control is :

• a task that lowers the probability of


having a “no-quality” output
• A preventive measure to avoid
escalation of a problem
• An inspection of products or completed
tasks
• A random sampling of voluminous
materials for inspection

– elimination of known causes, and
– efforts to increase economic
effectiveness.
