Curtiss “Helldiver”SB2C Series

USS YORKTOWN (CV 10). The SB2C was a large airplane, not particular in good standing because it was hard
to maintain and had several flying qualities problems. However it carried a good bomb load internally and
was, from all accounts, a very good dive bomber .

A fairly well known photo of a HELLDIVER over USS HORNET (CV 12) in January 1945.

This is the ESSEX Class HORNET. The earlier CV 8 had been lost in the Battle of Santa Cruz in 1942.
