We would like to invite YOU To Be Part of History. On June 6TH, the Rotary Club of
Melbourne Beach will hold the 25TH Annual Rotary Pineapple Man™ Triathlon. You could play
a significant role in making this historic race a success.

Twenty-five years ago members of our Rotary club put together the first sprint triathlon in this
part of Florida. The race – 0.3 mile swim, 15 mile bike, and 3.3 mile run – put Central Florida
on the triathlon map.

What began as an innovative idea for charitable fund raising has become a tradition in our
community. Hundreds of endurance athletes from around the state look forward to racing on our
course each year. We are expecting over 600 registrations for the 2010, 25TH Rotary Pineapple
Man™ event.

Over the last twenty-four years, the Rotary Pineapple Man™ has allowed our club to make
meaningful contributions to Melbourne Beach community projects and humanitarian projects
locally, nationally and internationally. Rotarians tend to be business oriented people who
understand how important it is to be careful when spending charitable funds. We like to fund
projects with definable goals and specific results, and use sponsorships to cover fund raising
event expenses.

One of many international projects – Polio Plus – was started in 1988 with the goal of wiping
polio from the face of the Earth. And the good news is that we are almost there. The world is
very close to being polio-free with just four countries still at risk.

Race proceeds also allow Rotary to contribute significantly to national programs and our local
community by supporting various initiatives that make a difference such as Melbourne Beach
Town Projects, Brevard County Recreation Disabilities Program, Friends of the Melbourne
Beach Library, Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, International, Leukemia-Lymphoma
Society, Habitat for Humanity, The South Brevard Sharing Center, and The M.O.R.G.A.N.
Project.

Year after year, the Rotary Pineapple Man™ Triathlon makes a difference in our world.

Rotary Motto
2010 – The Twenty-Fifth Annual Rotary Pineapple Man™ Triathlon
Once again, the race will be nationally sanctioned by the USA Triathlon Association (USAT),
and the race results will be part of a national athlete ranking system.
Managing a race with three separate events and over 600 athletes is a considerable undertaking.
An untold number of volunteer hours go into making the Rotary Pineapple Man™ happen each
year. Rotary is, by definition, a group of community volunteers. But, volunteers alone will not
make the race a success.
The requirements of a quality race are significantly higher than they were two decades ago. The
Rotary Pineapple Man™ requires a computerized timing system that tracks each athlete, web
sites for information, registration and posting results, sanctioning from national racing
organization, law enforcement to keep racers safe and separated from motorist, emergency
medical personnel on standby, lifeguards, race course directional and safety signage,
commemorative T-shirts, race swim caps, refreshments, finishing medals, awards, prizes,
drinking water, portable facilities, pineapples, communications equipment and more.
All of these cost money – money that we would rather use for humanitarian and community
projects. This is a great opportunity to support our SSiillvveerr A
Annnniivveerrssaarryy event and help defer the
expenses. We hope you will be part of the story as a sponsor and/or provide in kind support.
Additionally, donated prizes, giveaways, and/or coupons for athlete registration bags are a great
way to show your support.
