OPTICAL WAVEGUIDE GRATING COUPLER SENSOR CHIP
Grating I
Dot mark

L TECHNICAL SPECIFICATION
F (waveguide film)
S (substrate glass)
Diffraction Grating
H Surface relief structure:
W depth~20 nm
Grating periodicity:
Introduction 2400 lines/mm (0,4166 µm)
The optical grating coupler sensor responds to the Grating area dimensions:
change of optical refractive index of the liquid or gas length ( l )~2 mm
cover medium and to the adsorption or binding of length (L)=12 mm
molecules on the surface. Grating lines direction:
parallel to the longer edge of the sensor chip
The optical grating coupler sensor chip is based on a Dot-mark:
fine optical grating prepared on a thin waveguide layer diffraction grating is uppermost, when dot mark or
carried by a glass substrate. The optical grating couples number is in the upper right corner
the light of a He-Ne laser at a given resonance angle
into the waveguide layer. This incoupling angle is very
sensitive to the presence of adsorbed molecules and
Planar Monomode Waveguide
to any change of refractive index of the medium Waveguide material (SOL-GEL)
covering the surface of the chip. By precise SixTi(1-x)O2 , where x=0,25±0,05
measurement of the incoupling angle, the amount of Waveguide film
the adsorbed material can be determined with ultra refractive index (nF)=1,77±0,03
high sensit ivity. OW 2400c chip implements a coating thickness (dF)=170-220 nm
layer on the waveguide surface, that modifies the Substrate glass slide
optical, chemical or biochemical properties of the chip length (L)=12 mm
to the required extent. width (w)= 8 mm
thickness (H)=0,50 mm
OW 2400 sensor chips are used in high-resolution optical refractive index (nS)=1,53
waveguide lightmode spectroscopy (OWLS). Other substrate sizes are available on request.
