Starter Library to help you
get ready. These dozen books
are rich brain food on Creation,
Evolution, Intelligent Design, Rock
Layers, Fossils, Dinosaurs, and
Noah’s Flood. Reading them will
boost thinking skills, strengthen Bib-
lical convictions, and superbly pre-
pare you for some great conversations
with unbelieving friends or question-
ing believers.
Authors include a physical
chemist, hydraulic engineer, bio-
chemist, law professor, geneticist,
molecular biologist, journalist, chess
champion, educator, medical doctor,
theologian, and computer consultant.
Not all are creationists, Christians, or
even theists. Some accept the Big
Bang, stellar evolution, a long age for
the universe, and even aspects of bio-
logical evolution. Nevertheless, all
distinctly contribute to a Biblical
understanding of science. None is
infallible. Always measure everything
you read by the Bible.
These books are high-school level
and up. For balance and variety, I
selected only one book per author,
even though several authored multiple
books that could be on this list. Most
are available through Woodside’s
bookstore or library.
The Genesis Flood: The Biblical Record
and Its Scientific Implications—Henry
Morris and John Whitcomb
Dr. Morris, hydraulic engineering
professor and founder of the Institute
for Creation Research, is the father of
modern scientific Biblical creationism,
and this book laid the foundation. Dr.
Whitcomb is a seminary professor.
This book is the best resource for
Noah’s Flood. First published in 1961,
it’s been reprinted 32 times and is still
a must-read. In 2006 Christianity
Today ranked it #22 among “The Top
50 Books That Have Shaped
Evangelicals” in the last half-century.
It argues for a worldwide flood and
explains how rock layers, fossils, and
Ice Age resulted from Noah’s Flood. It
addresses the sources and disposition

of the flood waters, how
Noah fit animals (including
dinosaurs) on the ark, and
the age of the earth.
The Lie: Evolution—Ken Ham
Founder of Answers in
Genesis with its newly-built
Creation Museum, Ham says
Genesis is foundational to all
Christian doctrine and must
be interpreted literally.
Doctrines like sin and salvation,
institutions like marriage and govern-
ment, the beginnings of culture and
industry—all have their foundation in
Genesis.
Ham argues that if God does not
really mean what He says in Genesis,
why should we trust the rest of the
Bible? The religion of Evolutionism is
a lie from the pit and is the root cause
of most of the world’s problems
because it denies God the Creator.
To believe that complex biological systems were
gradually built up by small random changes is a
“flagrant denial of common sense…an entirely unsub-
stantiated belief for which there is not the slightest

Evolution: The Fossils Still Say No! —
Duane Gish
Dr. Gish, a biochemist and pre-
mier creationist debater, annihilates
the supposed primary evidence for
evolution—the fossil record. Darwin
himself realized the
strongest objection to
evolution was that
fossils did not support
it, asking, “If species
have descended from
other species by
insensibly fine grada-
tions, why do we not
everywhere see innu-
merable transitional
forms?” Gish shows
the fossil record is
characterized by
abrupt appearance of
life forms, absence of
transitional forms,
and constancy of life
forms. Thus fossils
support creation but
undermine macroevo-
lution.
The Case for a
Creator—Lee Strobel
Strobel, a Yale
Law School graduate,
journalist, legal editor,
and pastor, was a spir-
itual skeptic well into
his career. He said,
“My road to atheism
was paved by sci-
ence…But, ironically,
so was my later journey to God.”
Strobel confronts eight eminent scien-
tists and philosophers with an atheist’s
tough questions. The cross-examina-
tions build a strong scientific case that
the universe was intelligently designed,
and they show the logical and eviden-
tial weaknesses of Darwinism. His
questions involve cosmology, astrono-
my, physics, cellular biology, biochem-
istry, and DNA. The story is absorb-
ing. The arguments are compelling.
Evolutionism is no longer scientifically
or logically tenable. Science and the
Bible give consistent testimony of a
Creator. A student edition is available
for younger readers.
Creation’s Tiny Mystery—Robert
Gentry
Having discovered riveting evi-
dence for creation, Gentry struggled
against the scientific establishment
that strove to suppress it. Originally an
ardent evolutionist, Gentry found
radioactive polonium halos in earth’s
basement rocks. The half-life is so
short (three minutes) that the rocks
had to solidify rapidly for halos to
form. Molten rock would have taken

too long to cool, leaving no halos. This
evidence caused Gentry to abandon his
evolutionary beliefs. Gentry believes
the halos are some of the Creator’s
“fingerprints.” His investigations show
evidence for a global flood and earth’s
age in thousands rather than billions of
years. Evolutionists call Gentry’s halos
a “tiny mystery” but have proposed no
other explanation.
Darwin on Trial—Phillip Johnson
Johnson is a law professor at UC
Berkeley and one of the founders of
the Intelligent Design movement. He
looked at the evidence for evolution
from a lawyer’s perspective—analyz-
ing arguments, identifying assump-
tions, and seeking proof. His devas-
tating critique of Darwinism exposes
the lack of evidence and the Swiss-
cheese logic patching the theory
together. It also reveals Darwinism as
a philosophical belief system, not a
scientific theory. Johnson unleashes
an argumentative knock-out punch.
Darwin’s Black Box: The Biochemical
Challenge to Evolution—Michael Behe
Biochemistry professor Michael
Behe from Lehigh
University is one of the
fathers of the Intelligent
Design movement. He
argues that living cells are
too complex to have gradual-
ly evolved through random
changes. He gives examples
of “irreducibly complex” cel-
lular subsystems. These are
systems that require multiple
components to be function-
ing in place for the system to
work—the removal of any
component disables the sys-
tem. Such systems cannot be
incrementally constructed,
yet work during construc-
tion. Behe believes these
complex systems are definite
evidence of an Intelligent
Designer, because complexi-
ty, design and order never
happen by chance.
Evolution, A Theory in
Crisis—Michael Denton
In 1985 Dr. Denton, an
Australian geneticist and
medical doctor stunned aca-
demia with his comprehen-
sive critique of evolution
and his solid case for intelli-

gent design. Although not a creation-
ist, he challenged macroevolution with
logic and scientific evidence from tax-
onomy, fossils, embryos, molecular
biology, biochemistry, and probability.

Refuting Evolution—Jonathan Sarfati
Dr. Sarfati is a physical chemist
and former New Zealand chess cham-
pion. This insightful critique of mod-
ern evolutionary theory was in
response to "Teaching about Evolution
and the Nature of Science", distributed
to schools nationwide by the National
Academy of Sciences. Sarfati’s sequel,
Refuting Evolution 2, responded to the
PBS-TV series: Evolution. Sarfati’s
books constitute an excellent summary
of rational arguments for creation—
and logical rebuttals to current argu-
ments for evolution.
Icons of Evolution: Why Much of What
We Teach about Evolution Is Wrong —
Jonathan Wells
Textbooks are full of deliberate
misinformation about evolution. These
include the 1953 Miller-Urey origin-
of-life experiment, Darwin’s tree of
life, Haeckel’s embryos, archaeopteryx,
the fossil horse series, peppered moths,
Darwin’s finches, and ape-to-human
drawings. Dr. Wells, a molecular and
cell biologist, debunks these infamous
“proofs” of evolution which still litter
textbooks. Wells asks, “If the icons of
evolution are supposed to be our best
evidence for Darwin’s theory, and all of
them are false or misleading, what does
that tell us about the theory? Is it sci-
ence or myth?”
The Collapse of Evolution—Scott Huse
This book is well-organized,

interesting and understandable. Dr.
Huse’s three-fold purpose is to expose
scientific fallacies of evolution, to
present scientific evidence for Biblical
creation, and to demonstrate that
evolution and creation are contradic-
tory and irreconcilable. Huse, an edu-
cator and computer consultant builds
his case with examples from geology,
paleontology, physics, astronomy,
mathematics, biology, and anthropol-
ogy. Huse concludes, “Evolution is an
unreasonable and unfounded hypoth-
esis that is riddled with countless sci-
entific fallacies…There is an abun-
dance of impressive and convincing
scientific evidence which can be used
to justify an intelligent faith in bibli-
cal Christianity.”
Of Pandas and People: The Central
Question of Biological Origins—
Percival Davis and Dean Kenyon
Davis, author of several biology
textbooks, and Kenyon, biology pro-
fessor at San Francisco State
University and ex-evolutionist, have
written a supplementary biology text-
book that presents origins informa-
tion from six areas of biology. It dis-
cusses pros and cons of two compet-
ing interpretations of this biological
data—evolution and intelligent
design. The authors distinguish
between hard data and interpreta-
tions of data. To develop thinking
skills, they encourage students to
draw their own conclusions about
how well data fits each explanatory
model. The book is interesting and
accessible with material presented at
2 levels—a light overview and an in-
depth treatment.
This starter library documents
the paucity of evidence for
Darwinism and the plethora of evi-
dence for Creation. Evolutionism is
not science, but atheistic naturalism
masquerading as science. True sci-
ence points to God. Biblical
Creationism is soundly supported by
scientific evidence, logical reasoning,
and Scripture.
