CONVENIENCE SAMPLING

- sometimes called an accidental sample

- weakest form of sampling
- most commonly use sampling method in many disciplines
- it entails the most conveniently available people as study
participants
Example:
A professor who distributes questionnaires to his/her students
in a class.
Stopping people at a street corner to conduct an interview.
*Problem is that available subjects might be atypical of the
population of interest with regards to critical variables.

SNOWBALL/NETWORK/CHAIN SAMPLING
- a variant of convenience sampling
- often used when the research population are people with
specific traits who might otherwise be difficult to identify.
Example:
Early sampled members are asked to identify and refer other
people who met the eligibility criteria.

QUOTA SAMPLING
- researcher identifies population strata and determine
how many participants are needed from each stratum
- does not require sophisticated skills or a lot of effort
Example:
A quota of 200 people to answer a certain questionnaire – 120
are female, 80 are male.
