Transparent communication builds trust, changesperceptions, and motivates action towards greatersustainability. As pioneers o the development o the world’s most widely used reporting ramework,GRI is committed to updating its sustainabilityreporting guidelines to integrate the accumulatedexperience o practitioners. As part o thiscommitment, and in recognition o organizations’achievements in sustainability reporting, GRIconceived the Readers’ Choice Awards. The number o organizations reporting on theirsustainability perormance has reached a recordhigh. Companies and governments are rethinkingthe undamentals o business. There are innovationsin report ormats, and changes in the reportinglandscape. A unique survey, the goal o the GRIReaders’ Choice Awards is to determine what thereport readers o the world think o sustainabilityreporting today, and which reports deserverecognition.GRI inaugurated the Readers’ Choice Awardsin 2008. It shaped the uture o reporting. Thatyear, with more than two thousand respondents,organizations rom emerging markets stole theshow in many o the award categories. There are new and improved elements in theReaders’ Choice Awards 2010. Participating is easier,with the Readers’ Survey and Scoring Moduleintegrated into one user-riendly system. And withthe new Reporters’ Survey, GRI is inviting reportersto analyze and share their reporting objectives, orthe rst time.As well as celebrating worthy winners, the overallresults rom the 2010 Awards will gauge whethersustainability reports are meeting the needs o theirintended audiences. The results will address one o the most important questions in sustainability andtransparency today: exactly how do reports changereaders’ views and behavior towards a reportingorganization?
