1 Peter 2:4-6 – How we come to the Stone matters; we must understand this Stone.

Background: 1 Corinthians 10:1-4 – Jesus is the Stone. How did they interact with this Rock?

Exodus 17:1-2, 4-6 – Jesus, the Rock, was struck the first time. Numbers 20:1-2, 6-8 – Jesus, the Rock,
should have been spoken to the second time to complete the analogy. Jesus was struck once to bring
life, and now we speak to Him to bring life.

Moses’ Song: Deuteronomy 32:4 – Realize He is perfect and every decision He makes about your life is
the right one. Before we continue turn back to 1 Corinthians 10:5-11 – Learn a lesson from Israel about
how to come to the Living Stone.

How did Israel come: Idolatry, sexual immorality, testing, grumbling.

Deuteronomy 32:15-21 – Enter the Gentiles: Matthew 21:33-40 - Tell Parable (remember Jeshurun
grew fat and kicked) – instead of giving God what He deserves, “His fruit”, they rejected Him.

What does He do in return? v. 41-44 – Take the kingdom away and give it to others.

Background completed: Back to 1 Peter 2:4-6 – now we understand Living Stone, rejected by men.

v. 5 – you also, like living stones: How like Him? v. 4 Rejected by men (1:1, 2:11), v. 4 chosen by God
(1:2, 2:9), filled with living water (John 7:38-39), spiritual house (go through Ephesians 2:11-22)

Because the law has been abolished in His flesh we no longer give physical sacrifices but their spiritual
replacements instead…what are these replacements?
