Workshop on action of homoeopathy
medicines and potencies in the heart
rate variability
BHUBANESWAR: A workshop on ‘A
multi-centric study on action of
homoeopathy medicines and potencies
in the heart rate variability (HRV) and
blood flow variability (BFV) with
medical analyser system’ was organised
at city-based Dr Abhin Chandra
Homoeopathic Medical College and
Hospital. Participating experts
discussed the sensitivity of
homoeopathy medicines by studying
the HRV and BFV through an
equipment - peripheral pulse analyser
system - designed by Mumbai-based
Bhaba Atomic Research Centre
(BARC). The workshop was jointly
organised by BARC and Central
Council for Research in Homoeopathy
(CCRH), New Delhi. BARC scientist
and Head, Bio-medical and Electronics
Division Dr GD Jindal and former
scientist Solid State Physics Division
Dr Akalpita Paranjpe attended as
experts. Director Indian Medicines and
Homoeopathy, Orissa, Alekh Chandra
Padhiari, college principal-cum-
superintendent and coinvestigator of the
project Prof. LK Nanda and former
assistant director of CCRH Dr
Nirupama Mishra also spoke.
Silver Jubilee Celebration of
Fr.Muller Homoeopathic Medical
College
The inauguration of the silver jubilee
celebrations of Fr Muller
Homoeopathic Medical College
(FMHMC) was held at its college
auditorium. Dr Veerabrahmachary,
president, Bangalore Karnataka Board
Vol. 1, No. 2, August – 2009
of Homoeopathic System of Medicine,
was the chief guest on the occasion.
FMHMC founder director and Bendore
St Sebastian parish priest Fr Peter
Noronha was the Guest of honour. Fr
Muller Charitable Institutions (FMCI)
Director Fr Patrick Rodrigues presided
over the programme. As a part of the
celebrations, the silver jubilee logo was
released and new homoeopathic rural
health centres and the 'Homeopathic
Drug Proving Project' was launched.
Principal Dr S.K. Tiwari welcomed the
gathering, Organizing Secretary Dr
Shiva Prasad K. proposed vote of
thanks.

Designing clinical trials
homoeopathy for menopausal
symptoms
Homoeopathy has been used to
alleviate menopausal symptoms both in
the climacteric and in breast cancer
survivors. Individualized treatment by a
homoeopath, regarded as the gold
standard of homoeopathic care, is a
complex intervention where the
homoeopathic medicine is matched to
the individual using holistic principles.
This review article describes and
interprets the existing evidence from
observational studies and clinical trials
and makes recommendations for trial
design in the future.

Antidepressants and rebound effect:
evidence of similitude?
Addiction to antidepressants, rebound
effect after withdrawal and abnormal
symptoms like suicidal tendencies have
become a frequent news to us.
Hahnemann proposed the therapy of
similarity, administering to the patients
medicines capable of causing, in
healthy individuals, similar symptoms
to the natural disease. Based on
experimental observations, he proposed
that the primary action of the drug was
followed by the secondary and opposite
action of the organism, inaugurating
homoeopathic pharmacology, and
alerting to the harmful consequences of
palliative medicines in susceptible
individuals. Such iatrogenic events can
be observed in contemporary medicine,
after the withdrawal of modern
enantiopathic medicines, according to
of
the study of the rebound effect or
paradoxical reaction of the organism.
This study reviews the recent studies
which describe suicidality after the
suspension or discontinuation of second
generation antidepressants according to
the hypothesis of the paradoxical
reaction of the organism. Rebound and
withdrawal effects, including
suicidality occur with antidepressant
drugs. They are relatively rare but more
intense than the primary action of the
drug. The probability of such effects is
influenced by patient factors including
age and diagnosis, and drug factors
including half-life.
