The Art of War
Part 2
• Spiritual Death
• 1. Can you lose your eternal life status?
• 2. Are you predestinated ?
• 3. When does grace turn into lasciviousness?
• 4. Liberty and Freedom are two of the most
misconstrued words on people’s tongues.
People think of being free “from” something,
but rarely being free “for” something.
The Art of War
Part 2
• Psalm 68.18 “ Thou hast ascended on high,
thou hast led captivity captive: thou hast
received gifts for men; yea, for the rebellious
also, that the Lord God might dwell among
them.
• Ephesians 4.8 “ Wherefore he saith, When he
ascended up on high, he led captivity captive,
and gave gifts unto men.”
The Art of War
part 2
• Fact: To understand freedom you must
understand captivity first. Man without the
finished work of Jesus Christ in their life
cannot be free. Christians can be free and not
walk in that freedom, much can be said about
the Emancipation Proclamation, people being
set free yet never embracing it for fear and
trepidation of the unknown.
The Art of War
part 2
• Fact: God will turn a generation or a person
over to captivity until they have either learned
their lesson and repented, or they can remain
in that captivity and die. God wants to turn
our captivity.
The Art of War
Part 2
• The Effects of Captivity
• 1. The power of cultural captivity
• “ It is a fact that the culture which holds you
captive will blend you into it’s environment. It
will change what you worship, and then you
will be changed into the culture or god that
you give time and devotion. Psalm 115.8 “
They that make them are like unto them; so is
every one that trusteth in them”
The Art of War
Part 2
• Daniel 3.18 “ but if not, be it known unto thee, O
king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship
the golden image which thou hast set up”
• 2. The Power of Comfort in Captivity
• Ezra 8.15b “ I viewed the people, and the priests,
and found there none of the sons of Levi.”
• Loss of Vision Ezra 3.12 “ But many of the priests
and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were
ancient men, that had seen the first house…”
The Art of War
Part 2
• Fact: Upon return what should have been the
attitude of the elders? Focusing on the wrong
thing, the hand of God was against them,
deliverance has restored them and they are
moaning over the way it used to be.
• Haggai is a book written over a group of
people who have been set free, yet focus on
what or who they were instead of where they
were in the present.
The Art of War
Part 2
• Captured by the Enemy
• 1 Samuel 11.2 “On this condition will I make a
covenant with you, that I may thrust out all
your right eyes, and lay it for a reproach upon
all Israel”
• Fact: The enemy wants to take you out of the
battle, you can’t fight, you can’t be positioned
to fight. You have suffered at the hands of the
enemy
The Art of War
Part 2
• Judges 16.30 “ So the dead which he slew at
his death were more than they which he slew
in his life “
• Fact: You may think that you are finished but it
is not over until God says it is over. You may
have failed, fallen, denied and went your own
way but God is a God of the impossible.
The Art of War
Part 2
• Psalm 137 1‐4 “ How shall we sing the Lord’s
song in a strange land?
• Joel 1.12b “ because joy is withered away
from the sons of men”
• Fact: Sacrifice is based on joy, and joy is based
on the presence of God which is contingent on
sacrifice. Captivity steals your joy, creates the
feeling of being a loser.
The Art of War
Part 2
• Psalm 126.1 “ When the Lord turned again the
captivity of Zion, we were like them that
dream. Then was our mouth filled with
laughter; and our tongue with singing: then
said they among the heathen, The Lord hath
done great things for them.”
The Art of War
part 2
• The power of confusion in captivity
• Everyone trying to wrap our minds around
what in the world is going on.
• Lamentations 1. 11 “ All her people sigh, they
seek bread; they have given their pleasant
things for meat to relieve the soul: see, O
Lord, and consider; for I am become vile.”
The Art of War
part 2
• When we are in captivity we lose our
effectiveness, our mission becomes clouded
because of the pressures of our taskmasters.
• Matthew 5. 13 “ Ye are the salt of the earth:
but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith
shall it be salted? It is thenceforth good for
nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden
under foot of men.”
