OUR MISSION
STATEMENT:

Making Disciples
...Changing
the World

He knows the
way that I take.
-Job 23:10
On October 31, 2014,
an experimental spacecraft broke apart during
a test flight and crashed
into the Mojave Desert.
The copilot died while the
pilot miraculously
survived. Investigators
soon determined what
had happened, but not
why. The title of a newspaper article about the
crash began with the
words Questions
remain.
Throughout life we
may experience sorrows
for which there are no
adequate explanations.
Some are catastrophic
events with far-reaching
effects while others are
personal, private
tragedies that alter our

Rev. April Wegehaupt

individual lives and families. We want to know

why, but we seem to
find more questions
than answers. Yet even
as we struggle with
Why? God extends His
unfailing love to us.
When Job lost his
children and his wealth
in a single day (Job
1:13-19), he sank into
an angry depression
and resisted any
attempted explanations
by his friends. Yet he
held out hope that
someday there would
be an answer from God.
Even in the darkness
Job could say, [God]
knows the way that I
take; when he has tested me, I will come forth
as gold (23:10).
Oswald Chambers
said, There will come
one day a personal and

direct touch from God

when every tear and
perplexity, every oppression and distress, every
suffering and pain, and
wrong and injustice will
have a complete and
ample and overwhelming explanation.
Today, as we face
lifes unanswered
questions, we can find
help and hope in Gods
love and promises. (Our Daily Bread)
May God lead all of
you and guide you and
any oppressive or
distressful time that you
may go through in your
life.
Blessings,
Rev. April

What is the 200 Member Club?

The 200 Member Club is a dedicated group of
Parsons District United Methodist Church
members and other interested individuals who
respond to the needs of Parsons District United
Methodist congregations and help financially with
local church ministries to revitalize and expand.

How Does It Work?

People join at one of three levels: Regular Members
at $10 a call or Sustaining Members at $25 a call or
Other Members giving what they can. Not more than two
calls are placed yearly. Members can always give more as
God leads. Goal is to have 200 giving units in the 200 Member Club. Membership
can be discontinued at any time by emailing: parsonsdistrict@greatplainsumc.org
or writing the Parsons District Office, Attn: 200 Member Club, PO Box 244,
Parsons, KS 67357-0244.

Questions About 200 Member Club or to Sign Up?

Call 620-421-9149 or email parsonsdistrict@greatplainsumc.org. The Evangelism
Committee will be working on this project in the near future. So, keep your eyes

a new study titled

SOUL KEEPING: Caring For the Most

Important Part of You by John Ortberg
The soul is NOT a theological and abstract subject.
The soul is the coolest, eeriest, most mysterious,
evocative, crucial, sacred, eternal, life-directing, fragile,
indestructible, controversial, expensive dimension of your
existence. Jesus said its worth more than the world.
Youd be an idiot not to prize it above all else.
Shouldnt you get pretty clear on exactly what it is?
Shouldnt you know what it runs on? Wouldnt it be worth
knowing how to care for it? Two things are for sure. One
is: you have a soul. The other is: if you dont look after
this one you wont be issued a replacement.

Evil Brothers
There were once two
evil brothers. They were
filthy rich and used their
money to keep their
wickedness out of the
public eye.
They went to church
every Sunday and
pretended to be perfect
Christians. Their pastor
was a doddery old fool
who had no idea what they
were really like.
But one day the pastor
died and a new one took
over. This pastor was no
fool. He saw through the
brothers straight away.
He was an eloquent,
truthful and powerful
speaker and, in a very
short time, the congregation doubled.
Unfortunately, the
church itself was in a bad
way, and a fund-raising
campaign was started to
repair the roof.
It had hardly begun
when one of the brothers
dropped down dead.
The day before the
funeral, the other brother
dropped into the parsonage and handed the new
pastor a check for the full
amount needed to repair
the church roof.
Ive only one condition,
he said. At my brothers
funeral, you must tell
everyone he was a saint.
The pastor thought long
and hard for several
moments, took a deep
breath and agreed.
The following day,
having banked and
cashed the check, he
stood up in front of a
packed church and said,
This man was as evil as
the devil himself. He
cheated on his wife and
abused his family. He
drank like a fish, stole
from the poor and never
had a nice word to say
about anyone. He was as
foul and wicked a man as
you could ever hope to
meet. But, compared to
his brother, he was a
saint!

activity of the church and are
invited to do so. Becoming a
member is, in faith, saying you

church. Our vows ask us to faithfully participate in the life of the
church with our prayers, our
presence, our gifts, our service
and our witness.
We hope you will be a part of
the ministry of the First United
Methodist Church. If you would
like to become a member, please
give us: Name(s), address, phone
number, e-mail address, anniversaries, birthdays and if you are
already a member of some other
church or not. If you are, we also
need the name of the church and,
if possible, the address. Please
give this to the pastor, or leave in
the church office.
