Just a Man?

The treasures given to a son by a father, the riches of Dr. William Carroll PhD.

Just a man I heard them say, just a man at dusk of day,

Just a man no bigger than I, than me, than I perceive myself to be-

Just a man? My thought they blared, whose voice could caress or split asunder the air

Just a man so filled with wonders, magic words, sacred gardens and a few blunders

Just a man in whose shadow I have grown, Just a man whose seeds I have sown

Just a man, no titan, no leviathan, Just a man not perfect nor without sin.

Just a man I heard them say, just a man at dusk of day,

Just a man, so like the others, if indeed all men are brothers

Just a man that much is true, Just a man who loved all of you

Just a man who I still see every time I look at me

Just a man blazed a trail, Just a man who told me his tale

Just a man no bigger than I, than me, at least than I perceive myself to be-

Just a man, but a universe and more, a precious pearl at his core,

Just a man strong of arms, Just a man full of charms

Just a man from the Griot’s root, but Just a man in an affordable suit

Just a man who gave his all, Just a man, not so very tall

Just a man, a lover, husband, a teacher a Daddy, a scribe, Just a man who was more than
alive

Just a man I heard them say, just a man at dusk of day
