CHAPTER II
Senseless Thoughts and silly quarrels
Shin Ji-Hyun
I slammed our classroom door open and quickly looked for Danica
around. Right now, I feel like punching a girl.
There she was, fixing herself with the other girls in the class. I stopped
myself from frantically shouting at her.
I just totally can’t believe this. Why on earth did she have to tell
everything to that old man?!
“Yah, do you have a habit of slamming doors or something? It’s killing
us man,” Shing-woo complained, clutching his chest.
He took his bag and started to go. “We thought you left already…
common, let’s go. We had just finished what we were doing.”
But I didn’t follow them. Why would I, anyway? I’ve got something
more important to do here.
Hell no.
I glared at Danica and started walking toward her. She just looked at me
curiously while everyone stared at us intriguingly. Everyone knew that
there was something wrong, Shing-woo and the others even stopped to
see what’s going on.
She stared at me, frowning. I could tell that she’s getting a little nervous.
“Yeah. Actually, there is,” I answered him without hesitation. And this
has got nothing to do with you, Mico.
I quickly grasped Danica’s hand and made our way out of the room.
“Yah…where are you taking me?” asked Danica, breaking the silence.
She glanced back at Mico. He was looking quite furious as we made our
way out. I’m glad he didn’t try to stop me though.
*****
“What’s your problem?!” asked Danica, now getting angry. I pulled her
through the hallway and up the staircase.
“Ow! You’re hurting me, you,” she tried to make me let go of her. “Hey,
let go!”
But I kept on pulling her until we had reached the roof top. Let’s see what
you’ll gonna do now, DANICA.
*****
I furiously dragged her in front of me. She fell onto the ground.
I waited for her to stand up. She tried, but I noticed that she couldn’t.
I squatted arrogantly and pretended that it didn’t hurt at all; I shot him an
angry look. He must not think that I’m too frail, this guy…
“You! Why did you have to tell him?!” he began. “What are you trying to
do this time, huh?!”
“Do you know what he can do to me? What did you tell him?!” he asked
angrily.
“Hey, who’s actually ‘him’ that you’re talking about?” I answered him
back, now getting annoyed.
“You’re grandpa?” I made a sarcastic laugh. “Hey, I did not tell him
anything. What would I tell him anyway?!”
He smirked. “Tell me, did I really hurt you on our presentation that you
even have to report it to my grandfather?!”
What the—? I didn’t report anything! This bastard! “Look, I didn’t tell
him anything, OK.”
“Well, I’m serious here too!” I shouted back. “I don’t even know his
number, alright!”
He laughed. “Do you think I can believe you just like that?”
“Well, I don’t care if you don’t believe me!” I yelled at him then tried to
stand up. “I’ll just get going then. It’s no use talking to a guy like you
anyway.”
I stared at him.
Of course I didn’t really go to Miss Park. I just excused myself out and
stayed in our classroom because my thighs still hurts. BUT HEY…as far
as I can remember, I DIDN’T CALL ANYONE!
“Oh yeah? Who did it then? Tell me.” He sounded like doesn’t really
believe what I said.
But Shin laughed frantically at me. “Do you actually think that THOSE
STUDENTS will do it?”
“W-Well…”
“I DID NOT—”
“Who then?!”
That’s it!
“That’s YOUR problem, not MINE!” I answered him back irritably then I
made him let go of me.
And just to my luck…I lost my balance and fell off to the ground.
Then he kicked the ground furiously and laughed. “Of course, why would
you care anyway?”
Then…
He left me.
*****
I tried getting up already. Bummer…that was just freaky. What was that
all about anyway? I did nothing wrong!
She quickly lost her balance and fell onto the ground.
Then I kicked the ground furiously. Ha! It’s obvious that she’s just
acting! This liar…
She’s the one who wanted this to happen in the first place! I glared at her.
*****
I quickly went down the staircase and made a run as I walked out of the
building, immediately going toward the theatre. I frowned. If she doesn’t
want to tell the truth, fine! She doesn’t care…then I won’t care too! So
what if grandpa will get mad at me? He’s always so mad at everyone!
But…I glanced back to the rooftop. Why do I have a feeling that I did
something wrong?
I smirked.
“I don’t want to talk right now,” I told him, starting to go again. But he
jerked me back…
“What’s your problem, man?!” I asked angrily to him. Can’t you see that
I’m pissed already?!
“What’s YOUR problem?” he asked back to me.
Then I pushed him aside and continued my way toward the theatre.
I heard him laugh. “Are you crazy? You left her alone?”
What the—I changed my mind and turned to face him again. “She’s not a
little girl. She knows what she’s doing.”
Really, getting worried because of her?! What’s that…like she’ll get lost
in that building or something?
“SHIN, she wasn’t,” Mico called behind me. “Acting like a princess back
there…during break this morning.”
“Yesterday, she went running here last night, and wouldn’t even want to
stop. And you know what, I think it’s probably because of—” he stopped
there.
I got silent.
“Listen,” he continued. “You’re not the only one who’s against this
fiancée thing, Shin.”
Then at last, I heard him running toward the building. I didn’t dare to
look back…instead; I continued to walk and went inside the theatre like
he didn’t say anything.
*****
“Where’s Mico? Haven’t you seen him out there?” Miss Park asked me
right away as I made my way toward one of the seats.
“Probably out looking for Danica, ma’am,” I answered Miss Park, not
looking up.
I thought she’ll ask more questions but Thank God she didn’t.
I sat beside Shing-woo and the others. They smiled at me and didn’t ask
anything.
I guess they understood that I’ve got some issues going on. They are the
weirdest guys I’ve just met, to tell you the truth.
“Ok, now that Shin is already here…let us give him a round of applause
shall we?”
“Let us all welcome him for he is now officially accepted—” She kept on
talking…
But then I began thinking of Danica, remembering her during break. She
said she’s alright when Mico asked her if she’s already tired.
But I thought she was just acting cool back there! And I dragged her just
now…
“I—excuse me?” Miss Park asked, taken aback. I didn’t wait for her to
answer anymore.
I quickly run toward the heavy door. Miss Park shouted, but I didn’t care.
I went out the theatre and quickly run toward our building.
Then I remembered Mico. Crap. He doesn’t know that she was here. I
immediately went inside and made my way through our classroom. I
heard a phone ringing. I felt myself rising and run fast like a lightning
bolt.
I slammed the door open again. I stopped. Damn! It’s just a stupid phone
ringing.
Then I suddenly felt nervous. This means that Mico hadn’t found her yet.
$#*%! I put her phone back inside her pouch and run out again.
I can’t believe that I’m looking for her…after what she’s done to me.
Damn…but maybe she just wanted my grandpa to realize that I’m no
good for her.
I grinned.
*****
She’s sitting right there, staring down on her lap. She’s probably
regretting what she’s done by now, huh?
Panting, I walked toward her. She doesn’t have to regret anything though;
I now totally understand why she did that.
I smiled.
But then, I saw a guy running toward her and then gave her a bottle of
water.
Mico sat beside her, gazing at her intently. I watched them from afar, not
smiling anymore. And then I decided not to disturb them; I turned my
back slowly and walked on the opposite direction.
“Mico was already looking for her in the first place,” I muttered and
stared at the pouch I was holding.
*****
I continued to look at him directly in the eye, not showing any slight
nervousness.
“What do you mean?” I asked like I didn’t know what he’s talking about.
He slowly leaned on his chair then sighed. “Tell me…do you want my
company that bad?”
“I’m the one who wanted the marriage,” he continued. “They did not
persuade me for her to marry you, you fool! They have no intention of
taking anything from us! From YOU!”
I fell silent.
“Get out…”
“I’m sorry.”
I looked up at him; he was now staring down on his table, not daring to
look at me.
*****
I threw myself on the couch and kept tossing Danica’s pouch in the air,
wondering for a while.
Shin Ji-Hyun, did you react too much? Was it wrong for me to get angry
to her like that?
I quickly sat straight, scowling a little, and held her pouch tightly on my
hand.
