CHAPTER II
Senseless Thoughts and silly quarrels

Shin Ji-Hyun
I slammed our classroom door open and quickly looked for Danica
around. Right now, I feel like punching a girl.

Everyone immediately glanced at me.

There she was, fixing herself with the other girls in the class. I stopped
myself from frantically shouting at her.

I just totally can’t believe this. Why on earth did she have to tell
everything to that old man?!
“Yah, do you have a habit of slamming doors or something? It’s killing
us man,” Shing-woo complained, clutching his chest.

He took his bag and started to go. “We thought you left already…
common, let’s go. We had just finished what we were doing.”

He patted my shoulders and went out, the others tagged along.

But I didn’t follow them. Why would I, anyway? I’ve got something
more important to do here.

“Hey, are you coming or not?” asked Yuu on my back.

Hell no.

I glared at Danica and started walking toward her. She just looked at me
curiously while everyone stared at us intriguingly. Everyone knew that
there was something wrong, Shing-woo and the others even stopped to
see what’s going on.

“Let’s talk,” I told her, controlling my voice.

She stared at me, frowning. I could tell that she’s getting a little nervous.

“Anything wrong, Shin?” asked Mico who went beside Danica.

“Yeah. Actually, there is,” I answered him without hesitation. And this
has got nothing to do with you, Mico.

I quickly grasped Danica’s hand and made our way out of the room.

No one made a sound.

“Yah…where are you taking me?” asked Danica, breaking the silence.
She glanced back at Mico. He was looking quite furious as we made our
way out. I’m glad he didn’t try to stop me though.

*****

“What’s your problem?!” asked Danica, now getting angry. I pulled her
through the hallway and up the staircase.

“Ow! You’re hurting me, you,” she tried to make me let go of her. “Hey,
let go!”
But I kept on pulling her until we had reached the roof top. Let’s see what
you’ll gonna do now, DANICA.

*****

I furiously dragged her in front of me. She fell onto the ground.

I waited for her to stand up. She tried, but I noticed that she couldn’t.

I smirked. “What…your legs got tired again?”

She glared at me. “Why are we here?”

I moved toward her. “STAND UP.”

Danica Joo
“STAND UP,” he ordered me but I just continued glaring at him.

This stupid jerk! He pulled me up here that caused me to run. How am I

supposed to stand up now?! Aish. My thighs are stinging like crazy.

I squatted arrogantly and pretended that it didn’t hurt at all; I shot him an
angry look. He must not think that I’m too frail, this guy…

He continued looking back fiercely at me while I acted as if I didn’t care.

Why’s he angry anyway?!

“You! Why did you have to tell him?!” he began. “What are you trying to
do this time, huh?!”

I gave him a stern look. Now, what’s he talking about?

“Do you know what he can do to me? What did you tell him?!” he asked
angrily.

“Hey, who’s actually ‘him’ that you’re talking about?” I answered him
back, now getting annoyed.

“Psh. My grandpa, who else?!”

“You’re grandpa?” I made a sarcastic laugh. “Hey, I did not tell him
anything. What would I tell him anyway?!”

He smirked. “Tell me, did I really hurt you on our presentation that you
even have to report it to my grandfather?!”

What the—? I didn’t report anything! This bastard! “Look, I didn’t tell
him anything, OK.”

“Don’t dare lie to me, I’m totally serious here!”

“Well, I’m serious here too!” I shouted back. “I don’t even know his
number, alright!”

He laughed. “Do you think I can believe you just like that?”
“Well, I don’t care if you don’t believe me!” I yelled at him then tried to
stand up. “I’ll just get going then. It’s no use talking to a guy like you
anyway.”

He inched closer then suddenly grabbed my shoulders and made me stand

up straight.

“Yah!” I yelled, getting awfully uneasy.

“What did you do during P.E. class?” he asked seriously to me.

I stared at him.

“You weren’t in class I noticed.”

I smirked. “I went to Miss Park. Look, I didn’t call your grandpa. So

please, let go of me!”

Of course I didn’t really go to Miss Park. I just excused myself out and
stayed in our classroom because my thighs still hurts. BUT HEY…as far
as I can remember, I DIDN’T CALL ANYONE!

I tried to move away from him but he kept gripping on to my shoulders.

“Oh yeah? Who did it then? Tell me.” He sounded like doesn’t really
believe what I said.

I stared at him. Is he really this serious?

“Look, there were many students who—”

But Shin laughed frantically at me. “Do you actually think that THOSE
STUDENTS will do it?”

“W-Well…”

“See?! Who else would do that but you!”

“I DID NOT—”

“Who then?!”

That’s it!

“That’s YOUR problem, not MINE!” I answered him back irritably then I
made him let go of me.
And just to my luck…I lost my balance and fell off to the ground.

He stared down at me crossly. God, I look so stupid!

Then he kicked the ground furiously and laughed. “Of course, why would
you care anyway?”

Then…

He left me.

I stared at him as he went inside, stupefied by what just happened.

*****

I tried getting up already. Bummer…that was just freaky. What was that
all about anyway? I did nothing wrong!

I sighed. But why do I feel a little worried about him? Is he really

serious? Can his grandpa be so…horrible?
Shin Ji-Hyun

She quickly lost her balance and fell onto the ground.

I stared at her. Is she really serious that her thighs hurt?

Then I kicked the ground furiously. Ha! It’s obvious that she’s just
acting! This liar…

I laughed. “Of course, why would you care anyway?”

She’s the one who wanted this to happen in the first place! I glared at her.

*****

I quickly went down the staircase and made a run as I walked out of the
building, immediately going toward the theatre. I frowned. If she doesn’t
want to tell the truth, fine! She doesn’t care…then I won’t care too! So
what if grandpa will get mad at me? He’s always so mad at everyone!

But…I glanced back to the rooftop. Why do I have a feeling that I did
something wrong?

I stopped on my tracks. Mico was walking toward me. I guess he’s

waiting for Danica…but didn’t the meeting started already?

“Where’s Danica?” Mico asked me seriously, a worried look on his face.

I smirked.

“You don’t need to be that worried,” I told him as I started to go on my

way to the theatres. But he stopped me.

“Where is she?” Mico asked again, starting to get angry.

“I don’t want to talk right now,” I told him, starting to go again. But he
jerked me back…

“What’s your problem, man?!” I asked angrily to him. Can’t you see that
I’m pissed already?!
“What’s YOUR problem?” he asked back to me.

I glared at him. “I left her…”

“There…” I pointed our building, but not directly at the rooftop.

Then I pushed him aside and continued my way toward the theatre.

I heard him laugh. “Are you crazy? You left her alone?”

What the—I changed my mind and turned to face him again. “She’s not a
little girl. She knows what she’s doing.”

Really, getting worried because of her?! What’s that…like she’ll get lost
in that building or something?

Then again, I continued my way toward the theatre.

“SHIN, she wasn’t,” Mico called behind me. “Acting like a princess back
there…during break this morning.”

I stopped. ‘Hell she was’ I thought.

“Yesterday…” he started again.

“Yesterday, she went running here last night, and wouldn’t even want to
stop. And you know what, I think it’s probably because of—” he stopped
there.

I got silent.

“Listen,” he continued. “You’re not the only one who’s against this
fiancée thing, Shin.”

Then at last, I heard him running toward the building. I didn’t dare to
look back…instead; I continued to walk and went inside the theatre like
he didn’t say anything.

*****

“Where’s Mico? Haven’t you seen him out there?” Miss Park asked me
right away as I made my way toward one of the seats.
“Probably out looking for Danica, ma’am,” I answered Miss Park, not
looking up.

“Weren’t you with her?” she asked me curiously.

“I did,” I answered her quickly.

I thought she’ll ask more questions but Thank God she didn’t.

I sat beside Shing-woo and the others. They smiled at me and didn’t ask
anything.

I guess they understood that I’ve got some issues going on. They are the
weirdest guys I’ve just met, to tell you the truth.

“Ok, now that Shin is already here…let us give him a round of applause
shall we?”

Everyone applauded. I pushed a smile.

“Let us all welcome him for he is now officially accepted—” She kept on
talking…

But then I began thinking of Danica, remembering her during break. She
said she’s alright when Mico asked her if she’s already tired.

And when I dragged her…

She…she couldn’t stand up.

Then it came to me…

When I told her to stand up…she just simply squatted.

But I thought she was just acting cool back there! And I dragged her just
now…

S-She must’ve been hurt then!

I suddenly stood up.

Everyone looked at me curiously. The others laughed.

“Well,” Miss Park chuckled. “I guess Mr. Ji-Hyun here wants to stand up
while—”

“May I be excused, ma’am?” I interrupted Miss Park. Everyone got

silent.

“I—excuse me?” Miss Park asked, taken aback. I didn’t wait for her to
answer anymore.

I quickly run toward the heavy door. Miss Park shouted, but I didn’t care.

I went out the theatre and quickly run toward our building.

Through the hallways and staircases, I run as fast as I could, my heart

throbbing like crazy. And then at last, I reached the rooftop. I slammed
the door open and went out…

What the—. She not here.

But that can’t be...I left her exactly right here!

Then I remembered Mico. Crap. He doesn’t know that she was here. I
immediately went inside and made my way through our classroom. I
heard a phone ringing. I felt myself rising and run fast like a lightning
bolt.

I slammed the door open again. I stopped. Damn! It’s just a stupid phone
ringing.

It was inside a pouch under a chair…and it’s obviously owned by Danica.

Maybe when Mico got her bag, it accidentally fell under the seat.
Maybe…

I quickly opened her pouch and pulled out her phone.

I stared at the name of the caller. It’s Mico…

Then I suddenly felt nervous. This means that Mico hadn’t found her yet.
$#*%! I put her phone back inside her pouch and run out again.
I can’t believe that I’m looking for her…after what she’s done to me.
Damn…but maybe she just wanted my grandpa to realize that I’m no
good for her.

She…she doesn’t want us to marry!

I grinned.

*****

I suddenly stopped running.

She’s sitting right there, staring down on her lap. She’s probably
regretting what she’s done by now, huh?

Panting, I walked toward her. She doesn’t have to regret anything though;
I now totally understand why she did that.

I smiled.

But then, I saw a guy running toward her and then gave her a bottle of
water.

Mico sat beside her, gazing at her intently. I watched them from afar, not
smiling anymore. And then I decided not to disturb them; I turned my
back slowly and walked on the opposite direction.

I smirked. Why the hell did I look for her anyway?

“Mico was already looking for her in the first place,” I muttered and
stared at the pouch I was holding.

Must’ve gone mad.

*****

I made a bow when I went inside my grandfather’s office. He eyed me

furiously as I went toward him.

My limo went straight off to my grandpa’s company. Mr. Shun knew it

already; said that my grandpa ordered him to.

“They said you wanted to talk me, grandpa.”

“Are you satisfied now?” he asked calmly, but I’m sure he wanted to yell
at me.

I continued to look at him directly in the eye, not showing any slight
nervousness.

“What do you mean?” I asked like I didn’t know what he’s talking about.

He slowly leaned on his chair then sighed. “Tell me…do you want my
company that bad?”

I looked down on my feet.

“How can you be so selfish!” his voice grew lauder.

“I’m the one who wanted the marriage,” he continued. “They did not
persuade me for her to marry you, you fool! They have no intention of
taking anything from us! From YOU!”

“I think you’ve misunders—” I talked back, but he interrupted.

“Are you really my grandson?!” he asked me angrily. “How can I face

her now! After what you’ve done!”

I fell silent.

“Get out…”

“I’m sorry.”

“GET OUT,” he ordered me. “Before I can do anything to you.”

I looked up at him; he was now staring down on his table, not daring to
look at me.

I stared at him for a second…then bowed to him to say goodbye. Then

turned my back and made my way out of his office.

I closed the door behind me.

‘Well, that wasn’t so bad’ I thought.

I smiled a little. I expected that he’d kill me back there.

*****

I threw myself on the couch and kept tossing Danica’s pouch in the air,
wondering for a while.

Shin Ji-Hyun, did you react too much? Was it wrong for me to get angry
to her like that?

I continued staring blankly up to space as I muse over what happened this

afternoon.

I groaned. “Now, how am I supposed to give this back to her?”

I quickly sat straight, scowling a little, and held her pouch tightly on my
hand.

Then out of nowhere, a thought came up…

I sneered. I unzipped the pouch and pulled out her cellphone.

Hehehe. I nodded proudly and flipped her phone open...
