I would say this is a very typical

setting as it contrasts with the genre

and what is about to happen. As this
is a completely normal and very day
to day setting. This is common in
films as the shock of the contrast
gives a more of an impact on the
audiences reactions. Another
contrasting thing we have done is
started off with the girl feeling fine
and then we see her slowly feeling
worse. We did this because we
thought it would be easier for the
audience to understand what was
going on. We also started with a
long shot, this is very common in
films to do this. As it shows the
bigger picture with the audience
coming into the story.
We decided to introduce the title of the film near the start of the opening, we positioned it
just after the normality with the girl just walking and positioned it before the girl starts to
feel her illness coming . We called it the “the unbeknown” as it has significance to the girl
being “unbeknown” to when her imaginary friend will appear, she is also “unbeknown” to
where her imaginary friend will be and what she may end up doing. This title also suggests
that everyone else around her is “unbeknown” to what she is going through. Again we used
contrast with the colour’s of black and white this is so the title stands out but not to bold and
in your face. I think that it suggests ghostly being.
We decided to introduce the characters by
when they appeared on screen we would
put who they were. We made this decision
because they are not known actresses so
the audience wont recognize them from
just there name so we had to make sure it
was shown this way.
In this particular genre of
horror if there is a character
playing a ghost or imaginary
friend of some kind. They
tend to use the technique of
them popping up in different
shots randomly. It using this
idea of them suddenly being
there with a blink of an eye.
We have used this technique
throughout all of our opening.
As we found it to be very
effective. It is used for
dramatic irony where the
audience no what’s going on
and the characters don’t.
This frame I would say is a good example
of a shot which has helped crate what
type of genre we have done . As the dark
lighting but highlighted in places gives this
feel of a scary atmosphere. Also looking
from some one else’s perspective who is
watching the scene happen is a very scary
thought. I think the lighting is the most
important thing when it comes to this
genre as it can set an atmosphere and if it
not right it can ruin a scene. This shot of
the imaginary friend standing so close to
the house also is building tension as she is
getting closer to the girl and to her
comfort zone which will be her house, as
your house is seen as being safe.
close ups are used a lot in this genre
as it gives audience a closer and
more intense feeling of how the
character was feeling. It puts the
audience in the perspective of the
character . It is also used in the a lot
of films as it gives more variation of
shots, so its more interesting for the
audience to watch.
We used the effect of black and white
when it was the flash back, so it is a lot
more clear to the audience that it is a
flash back. We linked this with a shot
after of her waking up out of breathe. I
think that we made this really clear that
it was a flash back. By the next shot
being the girl out of breathe it shows
that it was a night mare. Usually in films
this effect is done to show it is a
nightmare as the link of dark dim
colour’s and it being what is classed as
a negative dream.
This is the first shot where the girl will
in counter her imaginary friend so to
build the tension we have only used a
sot where it shows part of her body.
This still gives the impact of her
getting closer as you can see by the
movement of her feet. I would say
looking at this shot It shows it from
quite a hidden perspective, which
relates to this creepy genre. As you
couldn’t see the faces in this shot the
costume was very important we made
her leg and foot muddy and put
ripped tights on her, this costume has
been shown in may previous shots as
well so the audience will definitely be
able to recognize who it is.
This shot is another example of
how we have used costume
effectively, to distinguish who is
who. We but her imaginary
friend in a ripped t-shirt what
looks like blood all over it. She
also has a pale face and we have
done her a pale face with white
face paint and black eyes. We
also created what looks like a bit
of vomit left from throwing up
previously in the opening. This
suggests the state that she is in
as she did not have the effort to
clean it off. Also to distinguish
these characters even more we
positioned them purposely with
the imaginary friend behind her
this shows that she is the
dominate character.
