What is LHC and its purpose?

LHC stands for Large Hadron Collider. It is the

costliest experiment in world ever at over 9 billion dollars. It is the world¶s largest atom

smasher intended to collide opposing proton beams at the speed of light.It is build by CERN

[European Organisation

for Nuclear Research]. It

lies in a tunnel 27 km in

circumference beneath

Franco-Swiss border near

Geneva, Switzerland. It is

built in collaboration with

over 100 countries. India

is one of the five non

European countries invited

to participate in

construction of LHC: others being Canada, Japan, Russia and USA. There are 150scientists

from India, largest number from any country. On 10thSeptember 2008, the proton beams

were successfully circulated for the first time. On 19th September, operations were halted due

to a serious fault. It will be operational again by summer 2009. India has developed a chip

named MANAS (Multiplex Analogue Signal Processor)at SCL (Semi Conductors

Laboratory) in SAS Nagar. It took 11 years to build one. A prototype was developed in 1997.

It is designed by Swapan Sen andSandeep Sarkar of Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics,

Kolkata. MANAS¶s high speed and huge recording capacity makes it unique. It can process

data infractions of even a nanosecond (10^-9 second). In future, it can play are evolutionary

role in software application. If used in PC¶s, it will make it¶s speed 10 thousand times faster

as compare to new one¶s and internet¶s speed shall be enhanced by 20,000 times. Such

80thousand chips were supplied by India for LHC. India has also supplied 7000 jacks

weighing 6 ton each. These jacks were designed and developed by Centre for Advanced

Technology (CAT), Indore, then manufactured at Kirloskar Electric Company Ltd. in

Bangalore and Crompton Greaves Ltd. in Bhopal.

Neutrons and Protons are best known as Hadrons.

The experiment will help us in the verification of the existence of the Higg¶s Boson or God

particle, which is responsible for mass

of an atom. The particles are named

after Kolkata born Satyendra Nath

Bose (1894-1974) and UK born Peter

Higgs, both eminent physicists. It is

considered that God particle will be

discovered at the instant of collision

of two protons because God particle

exist only for a fraction of a second.

The instance of collision will be

captured in high resolution cameras

fitted in LHC which will help in

finding the existence of GOD particle.

Kurt Godel, a renowned mathematician purposed

the existence of a world of mathematical objects independent of humans. The major problem

of this theory is, there is no evidence to prove where and how do the mathematical entities

exists? How do we know about them? Is there a world, completely separated from our

physical one, which is occupied by mathematical entities? How can we gain access to this

separate world and discover truths about the entities? If existence of God particle is proved

with the help of LHC experiment, it will lead us to a conclusion that there must be some math

particle in existence too, which needs to be discovered and prove the existence of math¶s in

our surroundings. Means, we are living in a multi-dimensional world in which many

dimensions are beyond our eyes. Thus, proving the String Theory, according to which there

are eleven dimensions.

Sir Albert Einstein gave a theory of everything ±

which is a set of equations with which we can find anything except gravity. When the

distance between two masses is very less the theory of every thing fails to prove gravity.

Einstein spent last thirty years of his life in finding the fault in his own theory, but was

unsuccessful. Presently, ten thousand scientists are working to find the solution to the

problem. What they consider, the solution can be found with the help of LHC experiment,

when many new things will be proved and discovered after the experiment.

Einstein¶s famous equation E=mc^2 (Energy/Mass

equivalence) means mass has an associated energy i.e. by burning a paper it is converted into

energy in the form of heat and light. Equation also states that energy can be converted into

mass. If this theory is really true only then we will be able to produce a so called mini

universe in LHC or a replica of Big Bang. The experiment also checks whether the energy

released during collision of protons convert itself into mass or not. If so happens, it proves the

Big Bang theory and evolution of man.

The success of LHC experiment proves the biggest

achievement of mankind to know about its past and future and the failure of experiment

proves our effort so far to understand nature and science is heading in wrong direction which

need to be corrected.
