What is your favorite quote? And why?
Arun has succeeded to give us a common purpose with the favorite quote thread. It allied thousands of
people generously sharing their best. A brilliant demonstration of networking.
A brilliant demonstration of team spirit as well. You could see it when somebody came to threaten the
process. They were quickly taken care of and neutralized.
I enjoy the quotes coming from the fine people of a rare breed who shaped the world as we know the
brightest side of it. They symbolize a concentrate of wisdom that touches the core in us, beyond race or
religion. Most of them were not pure wordsmithery but the symbol of a eventful and meaningful life.
Many a time, I could hilariously giggle for minutes and keep the mood for the hour or the day and at other
times I would get into a meditative mode. Of course some quotes that seemed to mean much to many,
meant little to me. That‘s the good side of diversity.
I must confess, my email inbox was getting out of control with the LinkedIn messages from this thread and
my blackberry chimed (too) many times. I considered stopping to follow the discussion and even did for
short whiles, but then I started missing it again.
The ―What is your favorite quote? And why?‖ goes on. If anything, I think it‘s been speeding up recently. So
this titanic work will have to be updated fairly soon.
Thank you Arun and the compiling team, for this wonderful project! For the rest of us, it is a lot of fun and a
lot of learning.

―Here it is another GOOD example on how we human beings are so close and near to each other. Arun
started a post and all of sudden he had persons around the world answering to his call. Was there any
profit oriented motive? No. Just pure fun and joy of human participation! It is important to highlight that
participants are persons with few time! It reinforces my feeling that we humans, we value more happiness
concepts than profit as such! Which is good! Thank you and congratulations Arun and to ―your‖ TEAM that
managed to make this e-book available for all of us! Keep on shinning to all of us so all of us can
contribute for a better world!‖

What is your favorite quote? And why?
When faced with difficult questions or challenging situations in life like ―Where to go?‖,
―What to do‖? ―Which path to take?‖, ―Whether to end it all?‖ and such; I must admit that
I did not have the desired success in silent reflections. I always paused to introspect, yes,
but ultimately took recourse to a wise-saying, a quote or an anecdote to pick-me up and
help me stay on course.
The questions eventually begin to fade and the path one chooses and the journey one
embarks upon takes over and becomes life.
There is a tremendous sense of relief and a surge of elation that an appropriate quote
brought to my mental state while facing despair or doom, which cannot be expressed in
words; no amount of gratitude will pay back in kind, expect heading resolutely in the
direction, the wise men who gave those quotes have pointed out.
Having experienced it myself, I set out 6 months ago, and asked my fellow travellers on
Linkedin©, ―What is your favorite quote? And Why?‖
What is your favorite quote? And why?
The response was tremendous. It took time to build up, but then it did. And How!
From across the globe, a virtual bouquet of experiences and expertise from varied set of
individuals started flowing in, making the discussion a vibrant fountain-head of
inspiration. Illuminating and interesting contributions and perspectives with tremendous
depth have enriched lives of many who have spent but few moments to drink from it.
I have ambitiously attempted, with an amateur‘s passion and in his fashion, to bring it all
together in a firm belief that it will impact positively the lives of those who come across
this treasure-trove.
I trust you will lend a helping hand in sharing and spreading the wisdom contained in
here to others whose lives you want to help take a better turn. If you want to use it in your
training sessions, or use them as screen-savers or posters, give it to colleagues,
superiors or sub-ordinates; please go ahead and do it.
Let a few minds open up to new horizons outside their comfort zones and more hearts
inspire to realise the potential within.

"What the caterpillar calls the end of the world, the master
1. calls a butterfly"
- Richard Bach
It tells me that change is:
- Inevitable, part of life
- Painful and mostly leads to a situation where you may even lose your old identity
but at the same time:
- It is rewarding and gives you wings and
- Opens the door for a beautiful world
The choice is between hanging on to the past and ruing what's lost or bracing for the road ahead and profiting
from it. And the decision is purely one's own and has to come from within!

Life has taught me that indeed we are lucky most of the time when our prayers are not answered and we don‘t
get what we pray for. Most of the time, it results in something even better and something which we just cant
think of being so engulfed with our tensions and worries.

Confucius literally "Master Kong was a Chinese thinker and social philosopher. He
was born in 551 BCE in the Lu state.
He was of the opinion that moderation was the only way to stay between life's
extremes; each person in the world should maintain the respect of his or her position,
such were his thoughts.
For Confucius, family was very important and he believed that a man should always
honour the relationship between master and servant, father and son, husband and
wife, elder and younger siblings and two friends. Last but not the least, he urged
people to honour the aged people.
Confucianism concerns itself with the practical aspects of life, such as good manners,
treating others kindly and enhancing family relations. Instead of being poetic about
God or metaphysics, Confucius directed his teachings on moral and ethical grounds.
Bothered about earthly matters, he rested his theory on two main ideas - being a true
gentleman and having proper conduct. He stressed that a true gentleman is one who
has five characteristics - integrity, righteousness, loyalty, altruism and goodness. As
for proper conduct, the second most important foundation of Confucianism, a person
should practice social decorum and rituals, as it is the quickest path to ethical
growth.
Confucius' thoughts have been developed into a system of philosophy known as Confucianism.
I am not one who was born in the possession of knowledge; I am one who is fond of antiquity, and earnest in
seeking it there.
By nature, men are nearly alike; by practice, they get to be wide apart.

Shakespeare produced most of his known work between 1589 and 1613.
His early plays were mainly comedies and histories, genres he raised to the
peak of sophistication and artistry by the end of the sixteenth century. He
then wrote mainly tragedies until about 1608, including Hamlet, King Lear,
and Macbeth, considered some of the finest works in the English language.
In his last phase, he wrote tragicomedies, also known as romances, and collaborated with other playwrights.
Shakespeare was a respected poet and playwright in his own day, but his reputation did not rise to its present heights
until the nineteenth century. His plays remain highly popular today and are constantly studied, performed and
reinterpreted in diverse cultural and political contexts throughout the world.

Gandhi first employed non-violence and truth as his weapon. He lived modestly in
a self-sufficient residential community and wore the traditional Indian dhoti and
shawl, woven with yarn he had hand spun himself. He ate simple vegetarian food,
eventually adopting a fruitarian diet, and also undertook long fasts as a means of
both self-purification and social protest.
He is officially honoured in India as the Father of the Nation; his birthday, 2 October, is commemorated there as Gandhi
Jayanti, a national holiday, and worldwide as the International Day of Non-Violence.
Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.
It is better to be violent, if there is violence in our hearts, than to put on the cloak of nonviolence to cover
impotence.
Always aim at complete harmony of thought and word and deed. Always aim at purifying your thoughts
and everything will be well.
I object to violence because when it appears to do good, the good is only temporary; the evil it does is
permanent.

blood, who strives valiantly; who errs and comes short again

himself in a worthy cause, who at the best knows in the end

Henry Ford (July 30, 1863 – April 7, 1947) was the American founder of the Ford Motor
Company.
He began life as a farmer's son and quickly became rich and famous and soon became
an icon of a self-made man. Although an industrialist, Ford remembered and cared the
common man.
He designed the Model T for the masses and installed a mechanized assembly line to
make production cheaper and faster. The motorized assembly line significantly cut the
time, and thus cost, of manufacturing each car. Ford passed on this savings to the
customer.
He also instituted the $5 per day pay rate for his workers, which was nearly double what
workers were paid in other auto factories. Ford believed that by raising the workers' pay, the workers would be happier
(and faster) on the job, their wives could stay home to care for the family, and the workers were more likely to stay with the
Ford Motor Company (leading to less down-time for training new workers).
Ford also created a sociological department in the factory that would examine workers' lives and try to make it better.
Since he believed he knew what was best for his workers, Henry was very much against unions.
His introduction of the Model T automobile revolutionized transportation and American industry.

Albert Einstein was born at Ulm, in Württemberg, Germany, on March 14, 1879. He won
the Nobel Prize in Physics in the year 1921 for his work on the photoelectric effect and
was possibly the most famous scientist who ever lived!
One of his better known achievements was the mass-energy equivalence equation:
2.
E = mc .
th
History shows that Albert Einstein had the most significant influence on the 20 Century
and thus amounted to a radical change in world view.
Before Einstein, certain things were simply assumed to be true. Among them were the
"laws" gravity and falling bodies as they had been outlined by Isaac Newton. Also, it was
generally believed that 'time' itself was a physical constant: Everyone and everything
would experience the passage of time the same way as everyone and everything else.
His theory of special relativity predicted that this was not true, and was later validated by
experiments with atomic clocks.
Gravitation cannot be held responsible for people falling in love. How on earth can you explain in terms of
chemistry and physics so important a biological phenomenon as first love? Put your hand on a stove for a
minute and it seems like an hour. Sit with that special girl for an hour and it seems like a minute. That's
relativity.
I never teach my pupils. I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn.

Eleanor Rooseelt was born on October 11, 1884, in New York City, New York. During World
War I, she became active in public service, working for the American Red Cross.
Eleanor gave press conferences, spoke out for human rights, women's issues, children's
causes, the country's poor and stood against racial discrimination. She also had her own
newspaper column entitled My Day.
Roosevelt continued to be an internationally prominent author, speaker, politician, and activist.
She was one of the co-founders of Freedom House and supported the formation of the United
Nations. She founded the UN Association of the United States in 1943 to advance support for
the formation of the UN. During her time at the United Nations she also chaired the committee
that drafted and approved the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
President Truman called her the "First Lady of the World" in tribute to her human rights achievements.
Active in politics, Roosevelt chaired the John F. Kennedy administration's ground-breaking committee which helped

well as numerous articles. In these years, he also; directed the peaceful march on
Washington, D.C., of 250,000 people to whom he delivered his address, "l Have a Dream",
and he conferred with President John F. Kennedy and campaigned for President Lyndon
B. Johnson.
He was awarded five honorary degrees, was named Man of the Year by Time magazine in
1963 and became not only the symbolic leader of American blacks but also a world figure and posthumously awarded the
Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1977 and Congressional Gold Medal in 2004; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day was
established as a U.S. national holiday in 1986.
All who call on God in true faith, earnestly from the heart, will certainly be heard, and will receive what they have
asked and desired.
For where God built a church, there the Devil would also build a chapel.
Anyone who is to find Christ must first find the church. How could anyone know where Christ is and what faith is
in him unless he knew where his believers are?
Be a sinner and sin strongly, but more strongly have faith and rejoice in Christ.
Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree.

Blessed with insomnia and a brain that is at its best when the spine is restfully reclined, Arun packs his non-
working hours with voracious reading, story-telling, blogging, couch-potato-ing; and following diligently the non-
interference-in-household-chores doctrine that's so essential for a happy married life.
He lives in Mumbai, with a lovely wife who lets him be, and a terrific daughter who he is terrified is taking after
him.

Arun had no idea how much interest submitting quotes would garner nor the thousands of networkers who were eager to
participate. He took on the herculean task of compiling hundreds of the quotes into this ebook. Although there are hundreds
of quotes books on the market internationally, this particular compilation has a unique distinction.
The quotes include both the quote as well as the reason it resonates with the contributor. Information included here is
meant to inspire, motivate and uplift the spirits of people all over the world...for the reader and for the reader to share if so
desired.
Have a joyous time exploring these different quotes and depending on what you find, dance to the fiddle of your own
inspiration and happiness.

I truly appreciate Arun Vermuri‘s efforts in compiling all these wonderful quotes. Good quotes are not only inspiring and
uplifting – they are also invaluable tools for our training sessions, classes, and other presentations. They provide public
speakers with ―themes‖ and help with introductions and conclusions. What a great idea to have all these ―trainer gems‖ in
the same place. Thank you Arun!
